Well, I can't speak for other clinics, but the meds are about 1000-1500, the procedure itself does not cost much about 450.00, but the visits to the dr's office and US will run you 100-250 per visit and you can do somewhere around 4-6 visits before the procedure. Oh, and don't forget bloodwork. This is prob. average for a clinic in the Southeast.
My dh is in the Air Force and they cover all of the blood work and most of the medication. They only thing they do not cover is the injections (2 run me 500 and the procedure is 500) and all of my tests that they ran before was covered by my insurance also. I was just wondering about how much we were actually saving! Thank you. And we are in Las Vegas so things are a little more expensive than in other places...
Thank you my doctor has a high percentage rate (40% success rate over other docs in the area) so I am hoping that it will work and we won't have to go to ivf.
My lesson to learn about conceiving.. when you are totally relax, stress free, eat healthy diet, regular exercise, and don't think about conceiving.. then you will get pregnant... It's happen to me like that.. We tried to conceive for 21 months... spent alot of $$ for fertility drugs, IUI, doctor visits, etc... and nothing work.. we gave up and planned to take at least 2 or 3 months break... i was off all medicines, just relax and eat right.... in the same month i took a break, I got pregnant unexpected...
When you are stress out too much about conceiving, money, etc... it's never work... when you actually don't think about it.. then it's work... how weird huh?
good luck to you... wish you become pregnant very soon...
I agree about relaxing part. BUT you are thinking about getting pg even when "your not trying" you know when your supposed to be O so you DO plan to have intercourse
around this time.
I have 3 kids all naturally w/first time try's. BUT I did plan them, & planned timing accordingly.
So yes, it's important to eat healthy, & have as much of a stress free life style WHICH IS HARD TO DO THESE DAYS! But you have to do your part & KNOW your own body's signals........just TRY not to get obsessive
My cash prices were :
Consult covered by ins (pheeeeew, at least something was!)
B/W & US's ram me anyhwere from $66.00-$180.00 depended on what b/w was needed
& per cycle I had I think 4-5 visits. My IUI was $250. each, that INCLUDED sperm wash & count/& US for me
Then my meds were covered 50% from my ins. I was on gonal-f & one 900 unit (pen) was I believe like $350.00 I only did gonal-f from CD3-CD8 or CD9 @ 150 units each night so my Gonal-f was about $400+ per cycle & my HCG was @22.00 to buy it & $22.00 to have the nurse give it to me.
I THINK thats it!!!!!
Now I have an RE referral!!!!!!! YEAHHHHHH So I will be saving some $$$$$$$ ;) Hopefully I get pg this cycle on my own & I will just have them monitor me!
I would LOVE to go to get an US right now! I am SOOOOOO curious if I hav O or if I''m about too! Thats the fun part for me in all this! watching my body literally at work! I LOVE to know what is going on inside!
My husband is in the Air Force too and my injections are covered by tricare... I do have a $9.00 co-pay... You might need to check into that cause all I have to pay is the $380 for the actual IUI.. Your insurance should cover everything else!
I also go through freedom fertility pharmacy where they ship my meds to me (at no cost)
unfortunately most insurance does not cover fertility problems. now my insurance covered all of the scans for the first iui because i was not diagnosed with infertility
yet. i did have to pay 160.00 for the iui and 200.00 for the sperm wash. I am on my second iui and each scan is 134.00 they only charge for the first two any after that they do not charge. we pay 160 for the iui and 200 for the sperm wash. also you have meds in there now i am on clomid that runs around 25.00 and a hcg injection that runs 45.00 which i give myself to save. so it will run around 700.00 per round. Good Luck it is hard to come up with 700 a month but we somehow manage.
i have always been covered. i pay $25 dr copay and meds. when it was clomid the meds were just the copay cost of any other Rx. but injectables are way more. it can be like $900 for one pen of follistim. again, mine was covered i just paid like $80 for the HCG plus the copay. keep in mind my hubby's insurance covered the semen "analysis". so actually it was a $50 dr copay. pretty cheap for me.
Yes I have prime also (all active duty has prime) and yes this is my second month using gonal-f and this month my RE ordered me 3 900iu pens and I only had to pay 1 copay charge of $9...I won't use all of them but he said it's just incase I need it next month I'll already have it! So if I were you I'd call tricare and see why it's not covered..because in the tricare pamphlet it also says meds are covered...the only thing that's not is the IUIs and IVF...but even meds for IVF are covered! Maybe they can reimburse you?? That money you spent will cover the IUI!
Oh sh** I am going to be so P O'd if they charged me 500 for no reason. I am not taking a hcg trigger shot just progesterone suppositories. I called my doctor and the nurse on call is going to call me back so I can talk to someone at tricare. OMG I am so mad! How long ago did you do this?
Ok so I just went to tricare.com and clicked on "prescriptions" and then there is a place where u can search for meds to see if they are covered or not...I put gonal-f in and it pops up & if you click on gonal-f it'll show you how much the copay is ($9) off base & it's even free if you get it at the BX... Mine doesn't carry it! So yea they totally screwed you...and someone owes you $$$$$
They (my doc) are going to take care of it tomorrow and call tri care and the pharmacy and I better be getting a huge refund! I am so p***ed off! Thank you for the information though because I would be none the wiser!
Well I called tricare and the reason that I had to pay full price is because the doc didn't call the right number for pre authorization. I called my doc and they are going to fix all of it for me so I should be receiving a refund. Thank you so much for the fill in.
clinic on base (Naval Medical Center San Diego) and it is all free. I don't know if it is worth driving from Las Vegas to San Diego, but its a thought. They only do IUIs no IVF. But its 100% covered, all meds and the proccedures... and there is no wait list!
Wow! I don't mind paying the 500 for the iui and I need my husband and he just started his new position here in vegas and I am going to the best fertility specialist in Las Vegas and I finally got the co pay thing figured out so driving to san diego is kinda out the question but that would be awesome!
Yea that is great... I wish i wasnt so far away cause id go...but we are at Travis AFB, CA & our fertility clinic on base closed a few years ago..so now I have to drive to Davis, CA which is like 30-40min away... Not too bad...but it ain't free either! But I'm thankfull for what tricare does cover!
covered under their benefits, that the REST OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES SHOULD PROVIDE SOME (I'M NOt SAYING ALL) BUT SOME OF THESE COSTS FOR US WOMEN WHO HAVE NO BENEFITS????
Yes it would be WONDERFUL if all INS companies had fertility coverage! My husband will be getting out soon so we are taking advantage of our INS while we can.... But I feel that's the least the government can do for us military families that sacrafice so much!
Oh yes, I agree!!! I believe there should be some manadate that all ins. companies should have SOMETHING. But if the government sees it right to provide this for our servicemen and women-then why not make it mandatory that ins. co.'s help some for the citizens. I know some do, but most do not and that is unfortunate for the couples who cannot affort it.
IUI cost depends on what type of medication your doctor prescribes. Most health care plans do NOT cover the IUI procedure but they DO cover a percentage of IVF. (Strange isn't it)
I can only share expenses from the process I went thru.
Initial visit - $235 (I had insurance so I only paid $15 copay)
Medication -
1mg Dexamethozone, 10 pills $4.00 without insurance ($0.72 with insurance)
Femara 2.5mg 10 pills $150.49 without insurance ($37.61 with)
Novarel 100000UNT $118.99 without insurance ($1.25 with)
IUI Procedure - $350 my insurance did not cover this
Progesterone blood test - $235 without insurance ($15 copay with insurance)
Also it is inaccurate to measure IUI success rate by measuring the doctor's success rate.
It's not the doctor - each IUI procedure is independent and there are several factors, a primary one depends on the woman's condition and the quality/motility of the sperm. Overall IUI success rates are in the 20% range.
I tried it twice and got pregnant on the 2nd try. Hubby and I don't have any issues (PCOS, endometriosis, cysts...) We just have bad timing that's all. 1st round didn't work because we used Clomid and it thinned out the uterine lining too much. 2nd Try was with Femara and it worked.
