Hey everyone. I just had my first IUI yesterday, and I am now worried about the timing. I had the trigger shot 12 hours before the IUI and now I am finally feeling ovulation cramps about 26 hours after the IUI. We are BDing like crazy, but that hasn't worked in previous cycles. How long can washed sperm live? Do you think we missed it? Any help/suggestions that any of you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I am praying for all of us.
Hi, I have had 3 IUI's and I have had your same concerns before. I have read a lot of articles about IUI's and how long the washed sperm can live. I have found that they can live anywhere from 24-72 hours but they start to lose potency after the first 24 hours. You are 26 hours post IUI-so a lot of the sperm are probably still alive, some might just not be as potent as they were. I would keep BDing-even if you haven't gotten pregnant before-some of them little swimmers
will still get through. I think you are probably fine. Good luck to you! Our first IUI worked, but it ended up being a chemical pregnancy. Our 2nd one didn't work. We will find out on Monday if our 3rd one worked. I have really good feelings about it, so hopefully it will go good.
Thanks - I think my CM is not very good quality because of the clomid, but don't know that for sure. We will keep BDing, and hope for the best. Anyone else have any thoughts/experiences??
I have had 3 IUIs and got pg 2 out of the 3 times. The one time I did NOT get pg, the follies were on the side that I don't have a fallopian tube, so the chances were really low regardless of timing. So I think my RE timed my IUIs really well. In addition to that, twice I had an U/S a couple hours prior to IUI to confirm that I hadn't already ovulated. This is what we did.

In summary, the IUI was 36 hrs after hcg trigger shot. I have had IUI with and without clomid but we always used hcg trigger. I hate to be pessimistic, but if your IUI was 12hrs after trigger, I think that is way too early. I'm not saying that it won't work, I'm just saying I don't think it is the best option.
I really hate to be negative and I'm no expert, but you asked, so I'm just telling you what my experience was. If it doesn't work out this time... I would mention it to your dr.
Thanks for your honesty. I wanted the truth regardless of how negative, and I appreciate it. I agree with you that it was probably too early, especially based on your experiences. If this time doesn't take, I will mention this to my doc and tell him I want the timing done differently next time.
