IUI did not go so well....I am so very upset...someone please help

i just wanted to let you know the status of DH and I.  I do not think our first IUI worked.  I go in Friday for my blood work...but I took a hpt this morning.....I know I am not supposed to but it came out negative anyways.  Anyways this is how it went, I got my trigger shot on a Tuesday night and then Wednesday morning went in for a IUI (seemed a bit soon to me) and the IUI went great, no complications and DH had 42 million sperm!  Well they called me back that evening and said I had not ovulated yet (I could have told them that) and to come in Friday for another IUI since I had paid for two anyways.  Well we went in Friday for the IUI and got some shocking news.  DH only had 300,000 sperm!  they now think James has Retrograde Ejaculation and for us to go see a urologist.  Well they put in the 300,000 sperm and I went home.  They called me later that night and I still had not ovulated!  I am pretty sure that I ovulated on Saturday or Sunday....but I would think they would check that before doing the procedure.  I am just so worried about us being able to conceive now.  I know that I have problems(anovulatory) but now DH does too.  It is all very overwhelming.  I just do not know what to do now.  I go see the RE this afternoon for a consultation and I will let you all know how it goes.  Just wanted to know if anyone has ever had these problems before?

Thanks girls

I'm sorry for you - God, you must be exhausted this month.  I haven't experienced IUI but I thought that they would only do the procedure if you had DEFINITELY ovulated!  What's the point in it otherwise.

As for your DH sperm count... maybe you have nothing to worry about.  Afer all if he had 42m sperm the first time then he is obviously producing sperm.  Had you just BD'd or anything like that or did he BD on his own maybe...!!?

I would find a new doctor.  They should've done a better job monitoring you before telling you to do the trigger.  When I did my IUI, I was told to do the trigger after numerous blood work and u/s - practically daily.

As for your husband.  It doesn't hurt to get it all checked out, but you should also know that count can be low if he ejaculates daily.  For the best count and quality, he should ejaculate every other day.

so sorry to hear that this happened!  hoepfully some of the 42 million were still waiting it out! : ) and remember it only takes one right?!    at least they did a second IUI... We have male factor (morph of only 2%) and severe endo, one ovary and pcos, and got preggo with IUI (we didn't even qualify for IUI since morphology has to be 5% to really have a chance) but it happened, so anything is possible!!!! i'm prying for yall! keep us updated

I also think you should find a new doctor or at least have a second opinion.
They really did not manage the IUI in a professional way.
On the other hand I hope this time worked and you do not need to do anything else!
Good luck!

I have to agree with everyone here!  I really would find a new doctor.  The one thing that I have learned through my ttc process is to speak up for myself - I try to always be polite and kind, but I have told myself that I don't care if they 'get upset' - it's my health and my life!  I now require all labwork to be sent directly to me as well as to the doctor, so that I can see for myself if 'everything's normal'!!

My understanding about ejaculation is that it's okay to bd daily during the fertile time because what you lose in 'count' you make up for in 'volume' - I think that it's a good idea to get checked (I still think something is off with DH, but SA came back normal, so I'm outta luck!)....imho, there's no such thing as too many opinions!

I am really sorry that you had to go through all of this!!!!

DisneyChick ~ I thought the trigger shot was a sure thing?  How do they know you did not ovulate? My RE does an U/S on day 12 or 13 of my cycle to check my follies and if they look good and at least 18cm, then he schedules me for the IUI the nest day.  After IUI, I get the tigger shot so the spermies are up there "waiting" for the egg, then that's it...I'm in my 2WW.  I don't get any follow up after the procedure, so I was wondering what do they do that they know you didn't ovulate? How do they know you have anovalatory cycles?  I'm wondering if I have that!

bny807 ~ Congrats!  You give me hope.  This is my second IUI.  How far along are you?

The do blood work to see if I have ovulated yet.  I know that I am anovulatory because without meds I do not have a period.  thank you all for the advice!  I will have to stick with this RE because she is the only one in my area.

I see...my cycles are really short, between 21 and 26 days long, so when I was about 14 or 15 my OBGYN said that my cycles are so short because some of them are anovulatory (like a fake AF)...I'm 29 now and my new OBGYN and my RE have never said anything about anovulatory cycles for me, just something I always wondered about.  We have been TTC for almost 2 years and although they say it's male factor...I always wonder...but I guess if the last 2 cycles I have been monitored by U/S and the dr saw mature follies both times, I must be ovulating?  Although I wonder if there are actually eggs in them?

I hear ya about having to stick with your RE...we only have 2 RE's in my area!
