IUI questions

Hi all!

Just wondering- from those of you who have done IUI.  My DH and I have appt coming up with RE to debate IUI vs IVF for us.  We were all set to do IVF but DH's count went quickly and significantly up!!!  Have many of you done IUI for MF?  If so what was the minimum successful sperm count/ motility after wash?  Does it usually take multiple IUIs with MF?

Thanks for the help!!

SSBD!!

Jess

Oh one last question- can samples be combined- has anyone ever done that for IUI?

I don't know about MF, but typically with IUI they want over 20 mil sperm and I think it is 50% motility.  I'm sure dr will do it with less, it just probably means that your chances go down some.  Someone posted recently (can't remember who), but they had success with really low count.  I want to say 8 or 10 mil.  If you search the archives you might be able to find it. It was pretty recent.

best of luck to you.

Hi Jess I'm debating the same thing too. We also have MF and we have done 2 IUIs so far. We are debating on doing one more IUI or just waiting to do IVF. My RE did tell me w/ my last 2 IUIs that he does like to have at least 20 million after wash. I did call the nurse and ask about freezing or storing DHs samples and it was really expensive and probably not worth it. The nurse also said it wouldn't even be guaranteed that they would thaw out right. The nurse suggested him doing 2 samples in the morning to get more, but I think that's easier said then done. I kinda laughed when she told me that. GL :) Tanker chic is right, a lady on here 35momofboys did just get pregnant w/ twins by IUI and her DHs count was only 8 million. So, it can definatly happen!

35MomofBoys is the woman who got pregnant with twins recently with only 8 million sperm after wash so you could talkt o her if you'd like.  Good luck!

I am in a similar confusion , i have tried two cycles of Clomid and since we have been diagnosed with 'unexplained infertility' not sure how to move ahead.
one of the REs i saw suggested : stop clomid, skip IUI and go for IVF.
I'm 30years of age and till now we were thinking we would do a few IUIs before moving on to IVF... but now I dont know what to do...dont want to waste time with IUIs if they are not going to work..

have you also considered  GIFT instead of IVF? It is a little cheaper as they dont take your egg out they wat for it to enter your tube and injest the sperm directly into the egg there rather then in a test tube. The meds are the same. I'm looking into this atm :)
