IUI question(s)

4:30 am on Monday morning I woke up to what I though was my period.  I bled lightly all day and then started spotting again.  Lately I've been spotting for about 5 days and then get a really heavy period for about 3 days and then it just stops.  Because I was bleeding lightly I called the doctor and told the nurse that I started my period so we could set up an IUI date and get me started on Clomid.  It just so happens I'll be out of town the day they would need to do it.  Also she said they need to monitor me all next week (I'll be gone the whole time) so we have to wait until next cycle.  She mentioned that the IUI would be done on CD13 (I ovulated on CD18 when I was on Clomid before).  I was wondering why they do it on CD13 and not closer to CD18?  Also, what exactly will they be monitoring?  I'm wondering because I was going to call them back and tell them what happened so we can see if there's still a possibility of me getting the IUI this time around instead of waiting a month.  We were going to try naturally for another more month because of just having the dye test but I'm rather impatient.  :-/  Also, should I take the day off the day they do the IUI?  I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but any advice/info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Tanker Chic.  This is all new to me and so confusing.  I hate not knowing what I'm supposed to be doing or what's going to be done.

I can't speak for the nurse but I would say shenis just guessing about the iui cd. There no way to know a head of time because it totally depends on you follicle rate of development. Different places do it differently but most offten the monitor your collie growth n when they mature they will trigger ovulation and do iui about 36 hr later.

Best of luck

Thank you.  I was just wondering about work because I didn't know if it was suggested to take it easy.  I do a lot of lifting at work and wasn't sure if that would interfere at all with the IUI.

Hey!!  Well with my 1st iui on my 1st RE visit he gave me a prescription for letrozole(femara) instead of clomid b/c of clomids effects on the uterus lining. Then he sent me for blood work( endocrine panel) to make sure everything was where it should be we had already had a semen ana and endocrine panel before but he only redone the panel. I had also already had a laproscopy and tubes flushed so after the panel we were ready to start the letrozole.  So i took letrozole days 3 thru 7 of cycle and on day 12 of cycle I went to RE for vaginal u/s to check # of follicles and size.  I was told to use OPKs starting cd10 and when I got the LH surge to call RE and set iui for the next morning. So me and my DH went into office that morning and before we done anything they done another vag u/s to check uterine lining and ovulation. I had already ovulated so then they sent my DH to make his deposit and they told us to go have lunch or whatever and come back in 45min. They took us back and we verified the sperm and signed consent forms and the placed the sperm in the uterus. It wasn't bad and didn't take long at all. All I felt was the speculum like a pap I didn't feel anything else. After they made me lay on my back for 15min and that was it. I was told to test at 12dpo with hpt. I also had to go have a progesterone test about 1 week later.  I did have some cramping with my 2nd iui but not the first but I went home and took it easy with the first and had alot of errands to run after the 2nd.  So you will just have to see how you feel and what your doc says about work.  MY doc told me with both that if i got a pos hpt to call immediatly b/c they had procedures they had to follow. I don't know what they are b/c I haven't got a pos yet. I hope this helps. This is what mine was like, I'm sure everyone is different and docs operate differently
