My husband had low sperm. Like under a million post wash. We put him on clomid, vitamins and coq10. After 3 months, his count went up to 13 million. If you can ask the doctor to put him on that. We weren't sure because his testosterone levels were fine. Something with the clomid work because months before that he had constant low count.
We were successful (twins) on our 3rd IUI with dh's washed sperm count of only 8 million.
I know it can take a while (it's hard to be patient) and often becomes frustrating, but I say it's worth a few tries. Especially if you're young (ish) and if your insurance pays well.
Good Luck
This was my issue as well...we did chlomid for 3 months, 3 rounds of IUI (6 total) and no luck. we are now on to IVF/ICSI. I am in my 2ww so i dont know yet, but I wish i would have gone this route sooner.
Wow I really hope IUI will work but with those sperm counts the odds are against you. I totally know what you mean about DH not feeling great about it being his fault. My DH didn't want anyone to know and he was super sensitive about the subject saying he was a loser and I should leave him. So now when people ask why we had to do IVF I blame it on myself and on my pcos even though that isn't the case. But remember it just depends on your insurance for how much IVF cost. I paid nothing since I started my HMO right before I knew I was going to have to do IVF. If your a nurse maybe you have this option with changing you insurance. Not sure if you work at a hospital that has a few different plans to oick from like me. I'm a respiratory therapist.
Geritol complete and 1000 mg of vitamin c really helped my DHs count. I would have him start taking that too. GL I hope this IUI is the lucky one for you. I really understnad about DH not being sold on the idea of IVF because of the cost and also being somewhat in denial. I'm going through that right now w/ mine.
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am still holding on to the idea that the IUIs will work (even though I am a nurse and I know the chances are slim). I went for my u/s today and we will be returning for our IUI on Wed. morning. IVF is so expensive and my husband has a hard time dealing with the fact that it is male factor infertility. His swimmers are in excellent condition, there is just not enough of them. Our last two counts were 1.3mil and 7.2mil. Not a whole lot to work with.
Hi Jen- My DH also has low sperm counts. We did 2 IUIs and not pregnant yet. In a few months were going to try one more and then if that doesn't work I think were doing IVF. IVF is expensive, but I have read that the success rate for male infertility is pretty high. I've read of a few people on here getting a BFP w/ low sperm counts with IUIs and even natural. So, it can definatly happen GL :)
I also did IVf with ISCI but I am fortunate enough to have HMO insurance so it covers IVF 100%. PPO's usually cover up to $15,000. My husband sperm count had to be above 10million to do IUI and since he was borderline we went with IVF and now am 13weeks pregnant on the first try. We are lucky it worked the first time around. Next baby we may try IUI a few times before jumping to IVF again.
Hi there, well... IVF with ICSI is the way to go, that is if your hubby has low sperm count. It's almost $1000 more on top of the IVF costs, but they actually insert a healthy sperm straight into your eggs. Usually they will tranfer 2 eggs, but they get your most mature eggs and place the best sperm found in most of them, place them in an incubator for 5 days and then insert 2 of the most mature in you. Chances of getting pregnant are much much more higher than IUI. More expensive though.... something to consider, ask your doc. Good luck, that is actually what I am looking forward to doing within my next cycle, if all goes well!!! Lets pray!
We have already completed 3 natural IUIs with no luck. I started clomid with this cycle and have my ultrasound tomorrow.
Hi jen, can't answer your question i'm afraid but i just wanted to wish you both good luck,do you know when you are starting your treatment?...B
