IUI with meds round two

We just did an IUI w/o any medicaitons this past cycle and were unsuccessful.  Now my doctor wants me to take Femara and try the IUI with HCG trigger shot.  When will the shot be given if I ovulate D14 or D15 usually?  Will they wait until then or do the shot earlier?  Can they miss it if they schedule it too late?

hi there,
i too am on injectibles (gonal-f) and just did my 2nd iui.  they monitor the growth of your follicles and then if they do the hcg shot, they will know when to give it to you based on the size of your mature follicles.. and then they will schedule the iui next day. well, we did 2 iui's back to back for the cycle. so it was at 24 and then 48 hours after the trigger shot. i do wish you the best of luck.. i wish all of us the best of luck  :)

From what I've learned in my reading on PubMed and my own experiences (though I don't ovulate on my own and have used clomid plus HCG trigger), is that your best chances of getting pregnant with IUI is to do it right BEFORE you ovulate.  One paper actually showed 30% more success with IUI before ovulation than after.  You ovulate about 36hrs after the shot.  I've given myself the shot between days 10-12 (at the advice of my RE) based on my follicle development.  Once I've had at least one follicle reach 18mm then he's either given me one more day to see if I go on my own or once when I had a 20mm I did the shot that night.  So, you'll probably get the shot D12 so you ovulate D14, but follicle size might alter this.  They may mature differently on Femara than w/o any meds.  Oh, and your doc should still advise you to do LH kits each day to make sure you don't ovulate before the shot.  Good luck!!
