I am scheduled for an HSG next week. Doctor told me that I should not try to conceive in same cycle as HSG because XRay will cause harm.
Now even though doctor has said this, I doubt it. Another doctor ( one of my relatives) has said earlier that it shouldnt be a problem if u conceived in same cycle. Which seems reasonable as HSG is on 9th day and I woudnt even have ovulated by then.
But I said same thing to my this current doctor and she said that XRays stay in ur body for 1 month. which i again doubt.
Has anyone of u have heard about it that one shouldnt conceive in the same cycle as HSG.?
Or if u know someone who conceived in same cycle and carried full term with healthy baby at end??
Or if anyone of u had HSG, did ur doctor tell u the same????
I know i shuldnt question the doctor, They know best..but i dont want to just loose a month like this..
sorry I might not be clear, In short, my question is :
Can XRay during HSG cause any harm to future foetus( if conceived in that cycle)??
Foetus which is even not there.at that time....not even ovulated by then???
Do XRay stay in body for 1 month and one should only try in next cycle??
I was told the chances of conceiving right after my HSG were greater.....My doctor said nothing about that and told me to go home and try to conceive after my HSG.....
in there DURING the HSG the Xray can cause harm. Xray does cause dna damage and you do not want to harm your fetus. But once the HSG is over your tubes are nice and clear and if you ovulate soon after you could have a higher chance of success. I think they just ask you to be careful beforehand because you do not really have any proof of when exactly ovulation occurs. It is better to be safe
I agree with everyone else. I was told that HSG can actually help with pregnancy because it clears a nice slippery path to the ovaries.
I have an HSG scheduled for Monday, and I will be cd11. My doc said no problem with trying to conceive AFTER the HSG has been completed. I almost always O on cd 14, so we will probably try the day after the HSG up until O date.
It's ok to question your doctor.....they aren't always right. Sometimes they are overly cautious either because of their own personal beliefs or because they are covering their butts. If I were you I wouldn't want to lose a month either.
Good luck. Hope the HSG finds nothing wrong, and you get a BFP this month.
Yes it is ok to try to conceive on day 10 after the hsg is over, even the same night is fine but you may not be comfortable with that (HSG is similar to a PAP
how weird!!!! i actually had my hsg july 30 & in fact the dr that did the hsg said to start right away. but i guess not every dr is the same...wishing & praying for the best for you!!!keep us posted to see how it went...
