Is Citranatal DHA a safe prenatal vitamin?

I'm confused about something.....my fertility doctor prescribed Citranatal DHA, but i saw the ingredients in it and it has most of the fish that you shouldn't have once you're pregnant.  Fish that contain high mercury levels.  So is this a safe prenatal?

This discussion is related to Prenatal Vitamins?.

I know this is an old thread, but in case anyone else comes looking here for answers...Fish oil is a much better source of DHA than algae. Algae sources of DHA are many (more often than not) times treated with bleach and hexane to remove odors etc. As you know bleach is not good but Hexane is much worse. Choosing fish sources for DHA that are highly purified or come from fish at the bottom of the food chain (smaller fish don't live as long or consume other fish which are ways of becoming toxic with heavy metals like mercury) such as sardines, anchovies, and krill. I take for my current pregnancy MorDHA Prenatal supplement which is highly purified.  My youngest son was given DHA free formula once breastfeeding stopped and then supplemented with Babies Only DHA from egg phospholipids because I refused to give him vegetable sources of DHA.

FISH OIL has both DHA plus EPA. The lattest is not good for pregnancy but the DHA is good, so don't take fish oil as they sell it, get DHA alone. All pharmacies have it.

Thank you so much for the information.  I haven't started any prenatal vitamins but i have done my research and i was pretty sure that the list of fish oils in citranatal DHA were NOT good.  Thank you again. I will look into the Enfimil.  So i take it that one doesn't have any fish oils?

The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
