Is Letoval (letrozole /femara) advisable for ovulation induction?
A brief summary about my condition- had a chocolate cyst in left ovary removed Nov 2008 through laparascopy. After that I was given 3 Depo Provera injections one a month for 3 months. Last shot was in Jan 2009 and I didnt get my periods until June 2009. I only had 2 periods June and July and not after that, even those, I wasn't ovulating. Last month went through a HSG and my tubes are all normal. But due to the Depo provera other than problems with getting periods, I also have some liver problems- high counts of SGOT
Progesterone tables for 28 days, wait for my period to come back, then further tests to be done.
2. Take Letoval for 5 days, end of which I will either be ovulating or end up having periods and take it from there.
Of the two, my research shows that Letoval is an anti cancer drug and has been widely discouraged from being used for ovulation induction. PLEASE ADVISE...I;m getting quite anxious and worried...
Hi, Here i have copied the information regarding Letrozole which i found on following weblink
http://doctor.ndtv.com/faq.aspx?fid=5386
Letoval is the brand name of a medicine called letrozole. It is an anti-cancer medicine and is indicated, approved and internationally used for breast cancer in post-menopausal women. Using it for any other purpose is not only unethical but illegal. The manufacturer of this brand was illegally promoting its use in young women. The company was warned by drugs controller general of India (DCGI) to desist from such activities. The company apologised and promised not to do it again but the damage had been done. The side effects of Letoval include: heart attack, hot flushes, vaginal
inactivity, angina, brain stroke, paralysis, life-threatening blood clots in lungs, etc, as reported by the innovator company (Novartis) to the United States Food and Drug Administration.
