Is it possible? Harmful?

I am sexually active, I usually take BC pills, but recently I have been on a very strict diet for the past 5 weeks, I haven't been eating more than 500 calories a day. I stopped taking my birthcontroll because they make you gain weight and i thought that a baby probably wouldnt be able to grow in a body with such little nutrients because I've been eatiing so little. But I missed my period this month, I am wondering if it is possible that I'm pregnant, and if so, has it damaged the baby since I havent been eating? Please help.

Two things will happen on that diet:
1) You're in starvation mode and you're lossing weight, but it's not the healthy weight you want to lose.

2) You'll loss for a bit, but then you'll do one of two things
              a) It'll all come back, and bring friends in defense from being staved.

              b) Your body will get used to maintaining weight with 500 calories a day and
once you get to a certain weight in order to loss more, you'll have to drop
your calorie in take even more thus starting the cycle again.

AF is your period.

I would just take a home pregnancy test (hpt) and if it says negative then call your doctor and tell him your period is late. They can test you at your Dr's office and while you're there talk to him about your diet, your missing period, and your thyriod.

I think going to the doc is the best approach for all of it.

wow! thats amazing, I have a few more questions, youve been so helpful, maybe you can help. everyone keeps telling my I'll gain weight if i only at 500 a day, but I've lost 14 pounds in 5 weeks, will i start gaining later on? does it take a long time? Also what is AF? I have a history of thyroid problems in my family so I will definatly talk to my doctor about it. I havent been having any symptoms of pregnancy though, is it just too soon? Because I don't feel any different than I usually do, Im not nausiaus, My breasts don't hurt or anything.

Take a test. 12 past AF's arrival should yield an accurate answer. Of course there is always a possibilty of pregnancy. The sooner you test the you can find out and set your desired course of action.

Weight loss is hard, but I know that 500 calories a day puts 99% of people on the Sumo Wrestler diet, which is nothing more than a fast track to gain weight. It puts your body in starvation mode. In that mode it's going to hold on to ever last but of nutrients.

If you can't loss weight with eating in between 900-1100 calories, I would talk to your doctor. There may be a thyriod or hormonal issue that needs to be addressed.

As for not being able to do physical activity, you may still have confused your body with the crash diet.

We were watching a Baby show called, I didn't even know I was pregnant, the other night and on there there was a heavier set african american women on there, and she periods were irregular, and she was told that she would never beable to concieve due to her missing periods and her weight. In a desprate attempt to loss weight she went on a crash diet lossing 30lb in a short amount of time. That 30lbs loss made her ovulate, and she conceived.

She wound up delivering twins!! It was amazing that she never knew she was pregnant, but due to her missing periods so often she didn't think twice about it! It was crazy!

well the only thing i can say is take a pregnancy test? and for the whole 500 calories maybe u should try just 1000 or 900 i think that it too little but its your choice, and if u dont want a baby i would consider a nother type of birthcontrol talk to ur doc.

Thank you for your concern, I have always had a very hard time losing weight, I have severe asthma, so there are not alot of excersizes I can do, which is why I don't think My missed period is a result of nutrient deficiancy, I have dieted in the past eating 1000 and 1500 calories, and I've never seen result until now, but i am taking vitamins and drinking lots of water, I am more concerned as to whether or not I COULD be pregnant, even though I've been eating so little, and if I am, if i have ALREADY done damage, of course if i find that I am in fact pregnant I will eat more. Thank you for your help and congradulation on your tremendous weight loss! thats incredible!

Why in the world would you only be eating 500 calories a day?? You're body needs to food to stay healthy. If you're trying to loss weight you need to eat food! When I'm in losing mode I eat 1100 calories a day. When I'm maintaining my weight I eat 1500 calories a day.

A pound= 3500 calories.
An average HEALTHY weight loss is 1 pound a week.
Mathmatically if you want to loss 1 pound (the reccommended amount) per week you should only have to drop you caloric intake by 500 calories a day. Plus more water!

Fat has to exit somehow and the only way out is through urine. No water, no urine, no weight loss.

Now, you're body may be having a reaction to the sudden crash diet. If you are adding in physical activity, you may not see a period until later. The average BMI for males is 10-18%. For women the average should be 20-30%. Women need more BMI to remain healthy.

Gymnist, swimmers, the gals you see in the olymics. . .we ask "Why is it that none of them have a figure, or a chest?". It's because their BMI is in the 1-2%, and their bodies are not regular.

Anyways. . . if you are pregnant eat more food.

I'm not crazy, but there is one thing I know a lot about and that is weight loss. I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. I lost 70lbs in 14 months, and I have kept it off for over 4 years now.
