Is progesterone and Estrogen the same thing?

Is progesterone and Estrogen the same thing?

Are they the same thing? Or which one works better?

no, progeterone if I remember is the hormone you release when you ovulate , progeterone goes up and your estrogen hormone goes down during ovulation.

i am so confused~ prometrium to help keep the pregnancy, but also to get AF coming regular? im lost lost lost i tell ya.

i am prob 1 or 2 dpo and i just wondered if i should start taking it or hold off and ofcourse my doctor is no help. its like going to see a mime when i got there. hand signals and blanks stares. maybe i am just nuts and the stares are looks of disbelief from my doc............lmao.

Progesterone if not pregnant will eventually signal estrogen to kick into your cycle and estrogen will cause AF.  However progestrone, if pg, will nourish the development of embryo and keep uterine lining avail until corpus luteum takes over.  If you have low prog. levels, that's when you might need prometrium, so yes, I think it's a good idea to take it right after O if you think you might be pregnant.

Also, if you DR. is not helpful, you may want to shop around for another one - or even see if there are any fertility specialists, reproductive endocronologists avail. in your area.  They'll know more than just "vaginas".

Estrogen is the dominate hormone in the follicular stage of your cycle. The beginning of af until the day you ovulate. It is responsible for making fertile cm among other things. After the egg is released from the follicle, the follicle becomes the corpus luetum. It makes progesterone. Progesterone is necessary for pregnancy to continue. If implantation doesn't occur, the coprus luetum dies and af shows up. If implant does occur, the Hcg produced sends a signal to rescue the corpus leutum. It will continue to make progesterone until the placenta is big enough to make its own.

You need to take the progesterone.  If you do not, as tina1111 stated, you may not be able to support the pregnancy.  Since we have been on fertility medicine our bodies stopped making progesterone, and now we must add it back.  My clinic put me on progesterone the day of my retrieval and told me that even if I start my period, that I needed to continue the progesterone, asprin, and pre-natal vitamins...because the bleeding may be from one of the possible multiples not making it and not being absorbed...they would tell me after the blood test if I needed to continue the progesterone or quit.
