Issues with male infertility....sperm morphology.

Ok, so my hubby and I have been trying for a year.  I keep track of my menses and everything is pretty regular and I have 2 teenage children from a previous marriage and a healthy, fertile history.  A few years ago, I even donated eggs anonymously to a couple, so I have also been through all the same processes as those who are going through IVF.  My husband has no children, and we recently had a sperm analysis.  The gyst is 54 million, with only 25% normal morphology.  We have tried to make some dietary modifications to help, have a meeting with the fertility clinic scheduled for the end of the month, and in the meantime, are limiting the "BD" to every other day this week, as I am set for O-day on Friday, in hopes that a higher concentration of good swimmers will help.  Interestingly, my appointment with the clinic happens to fall on the first day of the end of my "friend" so if by some miracle we do succeed this month, we will know by then.

Has anyone else had issues with male fertility and similar number to this and had success with minimal intervention.  My doctor's response to the sperm analysis was basically, "If you were both in your mid-20's, I would say keep trying".  Unfortunately, I am 37 and he is 40 and we are running out of time.  Neither of us feels much pressure or stress and there is no blame.  We both love each other very much, but we would also love to share our lives with a child.

Thanks for any support!

Hi there,

We had similar fertility issues. My fertility seemed to be intact, but my DH's sperm was lower than average. If I am remembering right, he had a 24% morphology and a 42% motility (I believe the doctors like to see at least 50% motile sperm and 30% with good shape). Not horrible, but certainly not ideal. My doctor recommended we try Clomid with IUI, which actually worked on our second try:)
While we were waiting for our BFP, my DH changed his diet patterns somewhat (minimal fast food, etc) and took a multivitamin, CQ10 and L'arginine (apparently this is a critical supplement for healthy motility). He  would also occasionally whip up a smoothie with MACA, a supplemental powder that is supposedly good for enhancing fertility in both sexes. I took extra supplements and tried to eat better too - you never know! Good luck and lots of baby dust to you.
