Laparoscopy Recovery

Laparoscopy Recovery

I am scheduled for a Lap this coming Wednesday. I am sooo nervous about the recovery time. I can't take too much time off (I am a teacher and with just getting back from Christmas break -- I hate taking anymore time off. I can take the extra time -- but just hate to do that to my students). I am scheduled to be back to work on Monday and I am worried that that won't be enough time to recover. Is 5 days enough to recover to go back to work?

I am just nervous in general to have any surgery.

I ended up taking close to two weeks off when I had a laproscopic myomectomy. The fibroid they removed was bigger than expected so I think that had part to do with me being down so long. My RE said some people are up and going the next day and some people take a little longer to heal. I think you'll probably be fine and hopefully within 5 days your ready to go back to work. GL and I hope you have a speedy recovery  :)

I am teaching as well.  My lap was on a Thursday and I was back teaching on Monday.  Recovery time does depend on how much work is done.  If very little is done (i.e. your dr finds nothing that needs repairs) you may be back to normal even sooner.  I had lots of scar tissue repair so it took me 4 days.  If a tube or a part of your ovary are removed you may take longer to come back to work.

Good luck!

Thank you ...you have made me feel so much more at ease. It is purely exploratory -- they are doing an HSG as well -- but I hear that doesn't hurt too much. I am most worried about coming out of the surgery and the gas pains.

Thanks!

They will pump your tummy with gas and you will feel like a balloon for a few days.  Gas pains were the most unpleasant thing of the whole procedure.  The surgery itself you will not remember so don't worry about that.

HSG is unpleasant and some ladies find it painful.  However, it's REALLY quick.

Thanks so much. I feel a little bit better about it. I think the anticipation beforehand is the worst part about the whole thing! I just want it done and over with already!

I am also a teacher.  I had mine done this past Tuesday. Today, was the first day I left the house.  The first night and the next day, I was very bloated...and my operative site(s) hurt when I stood up and walked.  Now, I have had 2 abdomenal (abdominal) surgeries in the past..so, that made my circumstances different.  I was fine today..just got very tired, very quickly.  I am hoping I fit back into my pants Monday! I also bought on of those binds on the wheels today to carry my schools bags...
