Low # of Follicles

I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the low # of follicles that are maturing during my first IVF cycle. My RE is saying I only have 3 that are progressing (at 10cm as of yesterdays visit). They have me on 300mg of Gonal F and 150mg of Repronex (with 5 mg Lupron in the am). I'm 37 yo and we've gone through 2 unsuccessful IUIs in the past...and I had surgery in Dec 05 to remove endometriosis.

They say that they won't retrieve if there are less than 3 follicles so I'm pretty sure it will be a go, but wanted to see if anyone has any thought...I know it only takes one...

i've been through ivf 2 times & both were unsuccessful...the 1st time i was on higher doses of meds, they got 26 eggs, 16 fertilized...none made it to blastocyst.  Oh, & I got severe OHSS.  The second time the lowered my dosage considerably and retrieved 22 eggs, only 3 fertilized...they all fizzled out, no ET.     Basically, I think it is not the # of eggs retrieved, it is the quality and fertilization..hopefully they make it to blastocyst.

Thanks Erin. I went back today and the 3 are getting bigger and RE told me that the dosage that I'm on is the highest that they'll give during this cycle and even if I was to get something higher or wait longer it wasn't a guarantee that some of the smaller ones would grow bigger.

I'm so confused as to going for ER with only 3 viables. The RE has already prepared me for the possibility of not getting any eggs. :-( V. depressing...but trying to stay positive because it only takes one...right.

Last summer , I tried IVF, which was also unsuccessful.  I was given 600 of the gonal F , menopur was 75 IU.  When it was time for retrieval, there were no eggs.  My RE said next time he will give me 900 gonal.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry to hear about the results. I'm on day 9 and they've kept me on the same dosage for the last 6 days. I'm going back in on Friday so hopefully things will keep moving in the right direction.

hello. I went thru IVF inn Jan/Feb 07. It was unsuccesful. Anyway, I was on 150 to 175 to 200 of Folistim, with each dose I had the menopur. 3 days before my retreival there were 3follicles sized 20 and I had some 18 and some 16. Total retreived were 22, 13 fertilized, 8 grew to blastocysts. I had good growth from the beginning but in my consult appointment Dr had told me that sometimes it is slow in growing and that's when they get more aggressive with the meds. How far in the cycle are you?
