HELLO, IM NEW TO THIS SITE AND WAS HOPING FOR SOMEONE TO KNOW ABOUT THE MEDICATION METFORMIN.  I WAS PUT ON METFORMIN TO HELP WITH OVULATION BUT MY DOCTOR WASNT CLEAR AS TO WHEN I SHOULD START THE MEDICATION. NOW MY QUESTION IS THE FOLLOWING.DO I NEED TO HAVE MY PERIOD TO START METFORMIN OR CAN I JUST START THE MEDICATION WHENEVER??? I'VE BEEN TTC FOR 3 YEARS WITH NO LUCK . I HOPE THIS MEDICATION ALONG WITH CLOMID WITH WORK THIS TIME AROUND. HOPING FOR SOMEONE OUT THERE TO HELP!

I will ask my Dr. I called my insurance and they actually cover the test I just have to pay my $10 co-pay..=) Fertilityfriend.com create a user name. after you take your temp in the morning enter it in and it will track your temps for you. So you can actully see when your temp dips and gets higher.. It also tracks youCM-cervicle mucus. Med's that you may be taking and when you have sex that way its helps tell when you should be ovulating. Ps. OPK =ovulation predictor kits (test) Hope this helps

wow thats actually great that your insurance covers 50%. about opk im kind of new and dont really know that term. im sorry i feel lost. i would like to know a little more about fertility friend and how it works. ask your doc about the medication (metformin) to see if he/she puts you on it. i've heard it helps with the ovulation process. im yet to determine that myself.

I will keep you posted I am hoping AF shows up soon in the next two weeks or so. Im going to try BBT again. I use fertility friend. I would love to know how metformin actually works. My Dr. did not mention it to me only clomid.. I dont have regular cycles nor do I ovulate reg. Are you using OPK's. I think my insurance covers 50% of infertility. My dr stated to check I do have a co pay of $10.. I need to call...

hey, i actually don't know if i have pcos...my doctor never told me if i had it or not, but to be honest i have all the symptoms.which makes me think i do. i have the irregular periods, weight gain and everything else it comes along with. make sure your insurance covers the hsg because mines didn't. i have admed which does not cover anything with fertility. my advice to you on the hsg test  is to relax and don't stress it. from my personal experience it felt like heavy cramps while the dye was flowing . it only lasted about 3 sec. i didn't even  bleed after the test. which made me
happy! but you know everyones body is different. best luck to you!!! you'll see everything will work out fine. keep me posted on what happens with the hsg.

p.s.-i will also keep you posted if metformin actually works...

Im sorry mu post doesnt make much sense scattered  brain. Im ready to go home... Wow thats awesome the Dr. says you should get your bfp in 3months... I have an Hsg test soon, just waiting for AF to show up. Hearing what your dr. said about HSG test make me want her to show up faster so I can get started again..=) I will start clomid soon.. But did the Dr. put you on metformin because you have pocs???

wow I have to go get my hsg test Im just waiting for af to come. She came two times this month. but i want to make sure it just wasnt spotting... OMG CONGRATS!!! THATS A HAND FULL YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THERE...I'VE HEARD VERY POSITIVE STORIES OF IVF. I JUST HAD A HSG AND THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT AFTER THE TEST I WOULD BE MORE FERTILE...HE ALSO SAID I WOULD GET PREGNANT WITHIN THE FIRST 3 MONTHS. IM JUST HOPING THIS IS TRUE...IM STILL CURIOUS BECAUSE MY TUBES WERE NOT BLOCKED.IM STILL DOUBTING IF IT CAN HAPPEN FOR ME. IF NOT I WILL BE ON MY WAY TO IVF. I was getting impatient too. Every month the disappointment was getting to me. So we started being more serious about having a baby and the treatments. I had more months of clomid, then did 2 IUI and finally this yr started with IVF. I am 6wks 6days preg now with twins. So just hang in there. it takes time sometimes. Just be confident and stay positive. And PRAY.

My specialist had me on Clomid and Metformin 3yrs ago. After 3 months I did get pregnant , but it ended up in ectopic.

HI, IM SOO GLAD YOU WROTE BECAUSE I WAS LOOSING HOPE FOR MYSELF. WELL MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON 500MG OF METFORMIN AND YES ITS THE EXTENDED RELEASE TABLETS. THE THING IS THAT HE STARTED ME OUT WITH PROVERA SINCE I DIDNT HAVE A PERIOD SINCE 04/2007. HE ALSO GAVE ME CLOMID TO START DAYS 2-6 OF MY CYCLE. BUT ON MONDAY I WENT IN TO DO AN HSG AND I WAS WONDERING IF I CAN START TAKING METFORMIN AND WILL IT AFFECT MY OVULATION FOR THIS MONTH???

I was put on metformin because I had pcos.  This was almost 3 years ago.  I wasn't ovulating or getting a period.  I was able to start right away without getting a period.  I am on 500mg twice a day and 2 months ago I started IVF and when they took the ultrasounds there was no sign of PCOS at all.  I have been getting my period on my own and ovulating.  I only have one ovary so I only ovulate 6 times a year and the other times my body thinks it's ovulating which results in...when?  But it works and I hope you get a BFP.

My doctor had me start metformin right away.  I do not ovulate or get my period because I have pcos, and he did not make me wait to get my period. How many mg does your doctor have you taking of metformin?  If they have you taking more than 500 mg start off slow...do one week of 500mg and then move up from there.  Are you taking the extended release tablets?  If you are your best bet would be to take them after you biggest meal.  They may cause you stomach discomfort in the beginning but after about a month your body should get used to it (well atleast my body did).
As far as metformin and clomid together...I only took it for one month before I got my BFP, but everyone is different.
