I found out that I have MTHFR (2 mutations) after having a miscarriage in Sept 08. The test was done not only because of the m/c, but because I my pregnancy with twins in 1994 ended with one stillbirth and my living child being born at 31 weeks. My doctor prescribed RX prenatal vitamin, 3 additional mg's of Folic Acid, B6, B12 and a baby aspirin everyday. I got pregnant immediately after my miscarriage and had a perfectly healthy, beautiful baby boy on May 22, 2009 (5 weeks early). My doctors were diligent about monitoring his growth and movement and everything turned out great!! Good luck to you!! Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions. ***@****
I have 2 C677T MTHFR (homozygous), so does my husband. We have 3 sons ages 23, 21 and 18. All of our sons had RH and ABO incompatability with me becasue I am RH neg. Our youngest has mercury induced autism from the RhoGAM shot I received during my 28th week of pregnancy and his childhood vaccines. We are very lucky that we did not have problems during pregnancy and didn't find out about the MTHFR until our children were all in their teens. I had one miscarriage before 3 successful births,.
I think it is common and you just have to take the extra vitamins. Maybe baby aspirin too. Again my RE has not said that this means I should not bother to try nor has anyone said "oh - well that explains the MCs". So it is really just information and not explanation. If you google it you'll see that some docs do not even test for MTHFR after recurrent MCs because there is a debate as to whether it it a factor or not. Good luck honey.
Thanks for your response after 3 m/c I just can't help but worry. I am doing IVF this month and dr called with the news.
Hi. I have this (heterozygous MTHFR) and have been told it just means taking extra folic acid. My doc has not said it will cause a problem nor has my best friend who is a gyno said it will cause a MC. Good luck.
