Metformin, Provera and Clomid - Query

I have PCOS and am using metforming 500 mg for the past 3 months. Iam not overweight, but have a big tummy! AFter stopping by BCP, i never had a natural af of my own. Last month I got a provera induced period and started clomid 50 mg on the third day. well an early vaginal U/S showed i didnt react to 50 mg. so no ovulation and no periods. again last week started provera round 2. today is the 9th day after taking the last pill.yesterday i had some dark brown/grey discharge. then a drop or two. but then nothing. iam getting frustated. unless periods start properly i cannot take clomid 100 mg, unless i take clomid, i wont know whether i will ovulate. did anyone have slight spotting after taking provera? and any succes stories with clomind 100 mg after failed 50 mg?

I am 27 and was diagnosed with PCOS b/c I only got my period about 4 times a year.  I took Provera last month and started Clomid on the 3rd day but the follicle only grew to 5mm.    The doc started me on Metformin its been 3 weeks now and am taking the max dose of 1500mg per day.  How long does it take to get your period after being on full dosage?  I have the prescription for Provera but want to wait to see if it happens on my own.  Any ideas?

Hi ladies,
I am 25, and have PCOS (just DX 4months ago) Have no physical symtoms. I am slim, my skin is fine dont have any excessive hair growth.... it was just a lack of periods that made me get tested. I also have insulin resistance.
3months ago i went and saw a fertility specialist, he put me straight on Metformin 1000mg a day. this failed to bring on my period so I went back and saw him 3 days ago. He has now put me on Provera to induce my period, and is starting me on 100mg of clomid on day 3-7 of my cycle. also on day 12 I have to go into the hospital and have a procedure done where they flush my cervix with ink... i think its called HSG its supposed to show up any blockages on an xray. But my doc said that it also increases fertility for the next 3 months bc it acts like a big vaccume and flushes everything out that shouldnt be there.
Has anyone had this procedure done?

I've got a very good feeling about this Im both nervous and excited! I cant wait to become a mother :) We all need to send out happy vibes. sending out positive vibes attracts positive vibes so stay Positive. it will happen for all of us!

They say that using metformin and Clomis in combination has a much higher success rate than just clomid alone.
I also heard that staying on metformin during pregnancy helps to reduce your risk of miscarrige (especially those who have PCOS as our rates of MC are alot higher)

Good luck ladies!!!

I took Metformin for a year, then took Provera for a few months and then Clomid for two months.  I am wondering if anyone knows if any of the three drugs or a cominbation of the drugs can cause problems with my babies.  I had two beautiful babies a boy and girl, but both of them are getting fractures and no one is able to explain it.  They seem healthy now, so it would have only been able to happen in the first 5 months, so I am trying ot see if their bones may have been under developed and that could have caused the problem.

So please, if anyone has any information, please let me know!
thank you!

Hi,

I had the scan Friday morning - and there were one full grown follicle - 2cm and one 14mm.  They gave me an injection which would give me a LH surge and ovulation - 36hours after injection.  We went away this week-end and I had the injection 9h00 Friday morning - so predicted ovulation Sa evening.  We did BD on Saterday evening, Sunday morning and then Monday morning must again - but I am positive - at least there were a better follicle to work with than last month!

Now the waiting game starts again - ....:(

Hi, thanks for the update. Hopefully by now your scan will be over. and i guess you have good news to share.

for me the first problem will be to regularize my periods. previously they were there every month, but ofcourse never 28 day cycle. nevertheless it was there..but after using BCP for 6 months, everything has become a mess. I read a recent research work by Dr Nancy Dune, that BCP is actually found to increase the insulin amount. So contrary to the popular belief that BCP is good for PCOS women, i think its increasing the already high insulin amt that we have....dont know who is right and who is wrong...

end result, a process of reproduction which we all thought was quiet simple, now is a complex phenomenon. : )

I wish you conceive successfully this month, so that me and girls like me too can pin hopes !!

Another round of clomid of a higher dose, i really dont want to think of for myself!!

ok then do update

bye

Hi - one follicle did grow on the 50mg - but very slow.  They gave me extra injections to help it grow - but on my last visit before ovulation was supposed to happen - the nurse took a cm sample and said that maybe we should go on a stronger dose the next month - so she was not very positive - I am going tomorrow morning for another u/s and hope that there has been some growth these last two days.

Will keep you informed  - this waiting game is not for sissies!:)

The dr also said that they will give me an injection that will help with the release of the egg.

Will give update tomorrow morning!

Yes you are correct. weight does have an influence. so this cycle iam on very low glycaemic food. iam minimizing my carbohydrate intake.

Thankfully after posting my query, my af has started at a normal rate. today been the first day, i will start clomid 100 mg on the third day, and then a vaginal u/s on the 10th day.

Good that your follicles are growing. will pray that they reach the mark and ovulation occurs.

How was your reaction on 50 mg? did the follicle grow?

mine were just 1mm on the 10th day of the last cycle, then had to abandon that cycle halfway without doing any further test.

keep me posted when you ovulate.

Hi, I have PCOS as well and are using the exact same medication as you (metformin and clomid).  Started with 50mg Clomid - no luck and not good follicle growth and ovulation.  This month I am on 100mg Clomid and I went for a scan yesterday - there were two growing follicles in my left ovary - one 12mm and the other 16mm - so there is a bit more progress and my blood tests showed that the estrogen levels are higher than the previous month on 50mg Clomid.  I did use Provera before - and your AF does start a bit different than normal - being paranoid - I will still do a pregnancy test just to be sure. My ovulation date is very late - I am on day 16 today.  The follicles grow average 1mm per day and are ready when they are about 20mm - so they predict that my ovulation will be in four days - will wait and see if this works!Don't know if you have a late ovulation? I am definately not on a 28 day cycle.  I am a bit overweight - did not think that much - but the professor who did the scan yesterday wants me to loose a lot of weight - he says it has a huge influence on getting pregnant and using medications. Goodluck!
