Metformin side effects

Hi all -
Ive been waiting for the arrival of af so I can start taking my Metformin (For PCOS/ insulin resistance). She reared her head Sunday night/ Monday morning so I started my dose that morning (500mgs x2 daily). It was a very light flow and it finished Tuesday night. I have had no spotting since or any period pain. I have been grumpy and emotional and had diarroeah  but I assumed that was from the Metformin. Has anyone else had this happen on Metformin? Im going to keep taking the Metformin anyway because I dont actually feel sick or anything just when I go the toilet. TMI - sorry ladies...
Also does Met have to be taken at same time or does it not matter?
ta girls xx

thank you to all - i feel alot better today (its day 5 of taking met). My tum only realy feels nauseated when i go to the loo. Apart from that It hasnt really bothered me. I will research that low GI diet and try it out also. Ive had Laprascopic Gastric Banding which makes it hard for me to eat normal so ill give anything a try!! I dont think ill be able to escape the nausea as I cant eat a great deal. Im sticking with it no matter what though!!
It definately affected af, she barely stayed long enough to chart! She was here from late Sun night to late Tues night. She wasnt heavy at all. Usually I have a very heavy af with killer cramps, sore boobs, the whole works, this month I had nothing! Shouldnt complain but it just has made me wonder. Oh well - Ill see what the next month brings (if im not pg before...) hehehe, heres hoping!
ssbd to all - xxx lorri (p.s - does anyone know if anyone on here is from Australia?)

I just upped to 1000 about 6 days ago and have been nauseated a lot since then. It's starting to get a bit better, I'm trying to fight through it. I'd like to get up to 1500, does anyone know if it's going to be as bad when I bump it up again?

Hi. I'm on 2000mg met a day and at first i had really bad diarrhea but then after a coule months it settled down.  You have to eat when taking it or you can get really nauseous.  Also when you eat fatty foods the diarrhea will be worse.

i AM ALSO ON METFORMIN, BUT I ONLY TAKE IT ONCE A DAY.  I WAS TAKING IT TWICE A DAY AND GOT REALLY BAD DOUBLE VISION SO MY DOC BUMPED ME DOWN TO ONCE A DAY.  BESIDES THAT NOTHING ELSE.  I WISH IT WOULD LIGHTEN THE FLOW OF AF BUT NO LUCK THERE!

hi there, i am on my 9th day of metformin and i noticed that my AF was very short! that is odd for me since goin off the pill too! it was 4 days long with only 1 day or so of heavy flow. is that what you are experiencing? i hope that it works for you. i am praying that it works for me too. i have stopped the white bread and i am having to wean myself off of Mello Yello which is VERY addictive for me for some reason........i cant get rid of it!  I got some info about a low glycemic index diet which is suppoesed to be GREAT for insulin resistant people. If you are looking for some better foods to replace the foods you love, but still get a nice meal, google that and see what pops up!

SSBD to you all!

I have been on Metformin for almost 4 years.  I was diagnosed with PCOS.  But now my doctor says there is no signs what so ever.  I watch my sugar intake and I stopped eating white bread.  It has helped tremendously.  I did go to the bathroom alot at first but once I started to eat right it went away.  I take Med every morning.  I am also on the same dose as you.
I think it works great.  You just have to get use to it...Good luck!
