Multiple Miscarriage

Multiple Miscarriage

I currently have a 2.5 year old daughter, I was very ill with the pregancy but carried her full term. During delivery I bled out severly but no cause was found. Since than I have had 3 miscarriages; one at 11 weeks (no heart beat, followed by D&C), one at 8 1/2 weeks (severe bleeding partial miscarriage followed by D&C), and the latest one in December of 2007 was at 5 weeks (no D&C no explanation). I have had a work up plan and the results were way over my head. Basically I am heterzygous for the 5G/5G pallele gene (I think that is right). My OB subscribed a low dose baby asprin and foltx and said try again in 6 weeks. After scanning the internet for hours I have not seen anyone else in my situation or seemingly so. Most folks have Factor V or MTHFR, I don't. I am confused at how I already have a daughter and will this genetic mutation actually be solved by the recommended pills? I am reluctant to go through this again.

Sorry, I really don't know anything about all that, but I just wanted you to know that I will keep you in my prayers. I hope they find out what is causing all of this. I know the pain of going through a m/c, I could hardly imagine three. You sound very brave and you have awesome attitude!! Take Care and Good luck!!

I'm sorry for your losses.  I have FVL but I have two kids.  I've had 5 miscarriages now.  (The most recent one includes a d&c - tomorrow).  I get hyperemesis when I get pg.  I'm not sure if that's what type of sick you're talking about.  Even at this moment, I'm on Zofran and Phenergan due to being so sick.  I've gone through the recurrent miscarriage testing.  I saw an RE after my OB did a basic work-up.  I highly suggest that since that will give you more testing.  Neither my RE nor OB think my FVL is the cause of my miscarriages.  (And neither does the panel of specialists that my RE works with).  Insulin resistance was discovered through testing with the RE.  So I'm on a diabetic diet for the rest of my life.  I also take vaginal progesterone twice a day for first trimester as a just in case - there's never been any proof or questions about my progesterone but it's a can't hurt approach.  I do take one baby aspirin a day.  Since my losses weren't late, and I have two babies who were definately uneffected by FVL, and there's no other history of clots, heparin/lovenox is not being suggested.  It's a benifits vs risks situation.

I will get the baby that's taken out of my body tomorrow tested for chromosomal abnormalities.  (As long as I don't pass it before then.  I can't emotionally handle saving it if it comes up at home).

So, I don't know where I go from here either.  I know that my case has been studied by many specials and it looks like there are no solutions.  I'm not optomistic that the fetus's chromosomes will show a missing link.

On the flip side, I have two kids.  My body managed to do it right twice before.  I tell myself that it can do it again.  I have no idea how many tries it's going to take, but I have to believe those kids aren't flukes!

*The risks of clotting disorders increase with age.  Also, I know for FVL, they don't know why some women are effected when pg and some are not.  The pills they're recommending you can't hurt so I'd definately try them!
