Multiples question!

For the ladies that got pregnant with multiples. How did it happen??

Please comment about your experience, if you feel comfortable doing so.  Please note, if you are comfortable sharing, (if you had IUI or IVF), if it was male or female related infertility.

Hi Jen,
I don't  know if I'm carrying multiples, but when you transfer 2 5 day blastocysts like so many of us on here with twins, the odds are high for multiples. If you use a medicated iui and make 2 or more follicles then the chances are higher too. Kate Gosslin did iui both times and see what happened to her. Iui is usually used when sperm is an issue. I had my tubes tied 16 years ago and DH has low sperm count. We decided on DE due to everything we have been through. I'm so happy to b pregnant!

I'm not pregnant with multiples (any,ore!), but am a mommy of 13mth old twins conceived via IVF w/ icsi. My husband and I tried to get pregnant for 15 months. Went to a fertility doctor who did work ups on us both (and also took into acct my husbands previous sperm analysis results). We thought we'd go the IUI route first, but, with further sperm analysis on the hubby, we found out the amount, morphology, and motility were very low and my best chances of getting pregnant was IVF. Thankfully, there was nothing wrong with my parts. I responded really well to the fertility medicine, had 30 eggs retrieved, 23 fertilized, and because of my age (27 at the time), 2 were transferred back. Those two stuck and we now have a son and daughter!

Thanks so much for your comment! Hubby & I are meeting with an RE next week, my hubby has a really low count, I have all the info in my journals, if you want a read...lol We are hoping that IUI is an option for us & we will find out next week, I don't think we can afford IVF. I really want twins but by the sounds of it IUI does not increase chances of twins by much, but I have heard of it happening, plumber43 mentioned thats how Kate Gosslin got her broad..lol

Good luck! I hope for your sake IUI is the route you get to go!

I don't know if IUI increases your chance of multiples, but it's a possibility if you release multiple eggs and at least two fertilize and stick! Twins definitely aren't easy (obviously!), but it's a lot of fun too!

Just a heads up as we are at the same clinic... If you do a medicated cycle of iui (with injections) and you produce multiple follicles, they won't do an iui, they will convert it to an ivf. Also because of your age if you do ivf they will only transfer 2-3 day embryos or 1-5 day blast. I begged them to transfer more and they just wouldn't do it... Even after I was 34 they wouldn't because my embryos were made when I was 33 :( so take comfort that the likely hood of ending up with multiples (like Kate) is nil :)

I did not know Kate Gosselin got her last brood from IUI.. I was thinking she did IVF. She had too many follicles in my opinion and IUI resulting in 6 fetuses is fairly rare. I am doing IVF in mid Feb or March and I would be so happy with just one child, though I think about twins being better for the children, but a much harder financial hardship on me as I am single. I am not sure how many embryos I'm going to transfer yet. I guess it all depends on how many eggs and the quality my RE gets.

actually Kate Gosselin's IUI got cancelled because she was overstimulated.. she had too many follicles but her and Jon had sex regardless and thats how she had all of her children. I ust found this out.. she explains it in her book, "Multiple Blessings." Hard to believe her 6 were conceived strictly from meds!!!!!

My RE was pretty sure I started out with twins because of the very high beta numbers as well as what the first u/s showed at 5 weeks, but he thinks that one of them absorbed :( So it's just one in the oven for us...we transfered two grade AA embryos via IVF, BTW, as part of a 5dt.

Interesting stuff about Kate Gosslin, too...I had always wondered what her situation was...I thought she did IVF, too.

Can U ladies explain the egg grading? And sizes of eggs from what is awesome to whats bad? I am on day 4 of stage 2 ( stims) . I also hope from what I have read that my follistim 900 iu is 100 iu overfilled because tomorrow will be my 5th shot and I HATE the pen it kills me I have 3 bruises already and I dont want to have to stick twice tomorrow for my 200 iu. I am tempted to just throw the rest out and start a new tube if I dont have  but I dont want to waste it. unless I knew I would be short. I had my BW/US and the dr said I was 3.3 lining and I thought that was bad but he said no thats normal. and 11 folli but never told me any sizes. had 2nd bw and  told good and to continue on org med sched. I really want them to tell me more indepth what the hells going on. I dont truly trust them after what they did to me but I am stuck because they are the best of the best with in 500 miles of me, urgh. luckily I found u ladies so atleast I am armed alittle so my next US whenever that is I can say what are the sizes . I sould have retrival around the week of the 13th and I was hoping for a day 5 transfer but they told me today on the phone that it will likely be a day 3 transfer. I just want the best least guessing most successful because as I know u ladies know This ***** the waiting the wondering the self loathing of why me why do I have to go through this and $$ it. So any knowledge would be awesome,. Thanks

Thank You anyways. I think I have alittle more insight I guess 18 is mature I have about 10 between sizes 12-16 half way through the stimulation process.
