I've been out of town so I didn't respond to your question. The good thing about being out of town is that I didn't think about TTC the whole time. Anyway, I got to 11 weeks then I had a M/C.
Hi, I'm wondering if I am hyperthyroid too, I fit the profile and my sister was also. She was treated for it and had a beautiful baby soon after. I will find out in 2 weeks from my doctor what the hormone results were. Feels like forever. By the way, how far did you get into your first pregnancy? I was 7 weeks. ~Justine
Thanks. Just hearing there's someone else out there like me and that a doctor is positive about her future makes me feel better. Please do keep me posted. I already have been to see medical professionals three times for irregular periods. The first time I saw a nurse. She checked my thyroid and pituitary. Everything was fine, so she told me to wait. The second time the nurse was very rude and told me that she thought I was probably infertile all my life and just didn't know because I had been on the pill for so long. She also told me she would give me progestrone to bring on AF, but would not investigate the problem or help me to ovulate. Finally I saw an OBGYN. She told me I was hyperthyroid and to come back in six weeks, when the lower thyroid dosage would be in effect. I know this sounds bizarre; me seeing two nurses and only seeing a doctor once. It's because I am a graduate student and they wouldn't let me see a doctor in the summer months.
Your story sounds very similar to mine. My first pregnancy ended with a missed miscarriage and a D&C in March. I also, thought I would be pregnant by now. I've only had 3 (light) AFs since the D&C. I haven't had any bleeding now for about 70 days and unfortunatley am not pregnant. I'm having my hormone levels checked out, LH, FSH, thyroid etc. and an ultrasound of my ovaries (I guess to check for PCOS). I also, felt like I would never get preggo until I saw a new doc. and she was extremely positive that I would be able to. So I'll keep you posted on what my doc. suggests for me to do next as our situations seems similar. I suggest getting your hormones tested due to your irregular menstruation???? ~Justine
Just wondeing if any of you have ever tried anything natural? My Mom has a friend that would m/c @ 4 months every time. My mom told her about a natural progesterone cream she started on it and got pregnant. She passed the 4 month date and celebrated. He doctor kept telling her to get off the cream and to use synthetic progesteron (the ones he prescribed). She had a strong feeling not to. She continued on the cream and had her baby 3 weeks ago. She has sent my mom a ton of thank you cards. She truly believe that the cream helped her. I'm not saying that it would help you all the same way, but some times when you have exhausted all the other options it would be worth a try. Let me know ***@****
suggestion: Go see your doctor about irregular periods. He should order your hormone and progestrone levels check, fsh etc.
(hint: this should give a little insight as to why your menstrual cycle is irregular) Then after you have these test done for your "menstrual problems" . On you next visit when you go to get the results talk to your ob about trying to getting pregnant hopefully you won't need complete fertility testing hopefully this will give you enough info as to why your not getting pregnant. Also if he suggest clomid .. It's not really that expensive if you get the generic cost something like $40 to $60 . You will have to go every month for a clomid check. Which should be a regular office visit . Your insurance may cover this office visit since it's just basically a pelvic exam. Good luck hope this helps.
All fertility clinics have RE's. You can also probably look them up in the phone book. They definately take cash. Most insurances don't cover any procedures, but do cover some testing, such as hormone tests, and HSG. Even if your Dr.'s office tells you your insurance doesn't cover something, double check each and every test, Rx, and procedure. You can always submit things to your insurance yourself, and just see if you get any money back. Medical expenses are also tax deductible, even for voluntary treatments.
Ok, so at least you know that you are able to get pregnant and you do have periods, which is a good thing. I stopped taking birth control pills 1 1/2 year ago and still don't have a period/ovulation AT ALL, EVER. Plus my husband has a low sperm count! I've been taking provera to start a "fake" period, and then clomid, for 4 cycles now. After one early miscarriage, I am now pregnant again (hopefully it will last this time). It has been a long prosess, and I know it's hard to be patient when it's something you want SO bad! Hopefully you figure out a way to pay for the fetility drugs, or even better, you wont need them! You've done it before, right? Good luck to you!
So there's another problem that I didn't put out there...My insurance specifically doesn't pay for fertility services or fertility meds. Next time I talk to the OBGYN in person, November 10th, I'm going to ask her if she will at least write out a prescription so I can pay out of pocket. I also think that a lot of the women who visit these websites don't go through what I'm going through because their doctors will prescribe Clomid or similar meds. The OBGYN did say that she was willing to run other hormone tests though, so hopefully that will happen. Another question for everybody: How do I find a reproductive endocronologist? I know it's expensive, but do they ever take cash?
Have you been tested for PCOS? or other hormonal problems? I think that a Reproductive Endocrinologist could help you a lot at this point. Obviously your hormones are really off right now. There are more treatments available, once you know what the cause is.
Tia, sorry I forgot to mention something. I suffer from hypo-thyroid, and was told this could be a big factor also. Have your level checked regulary. I go every 2 months. But that also depends on your Dr.. From what my OB/GYN told me this is some what of a common problem for some women TTC. But don't worry, you still have a chance of getting pg.. As I said before, talk to your OB/GYN about fertility drugs, and she will give you the one she feels is best for you. Some women get pg in the first month, and others more, with a comb. of meds.. Again best of luck.
I have miscarried a total of 3 times. My periods went from a 5 day cycle to 1 or 2 days, 0r three to 5 days. Some months I've had a cycle twice a month. I have been trying to get pregnant for a little over 2 yrs. now with no luck, so your not alone. A lot of us struggle with infertility, more than you know. My advice to you is to sit down with your OB/GYN and discuss your options. It may be as simple as taking a med. to regulate your cycle, combined with a fertility drug. Try not to stress, which is better said than done! I myself have started taking Clomid as well as a prenatal vit. to try to prepare for hopefully becoming pregnant. I hope I was a little bit of help. My heart goes out to you. GOOD LUCK.
