Hi Robi,
I am 44 and I am in my 2ww of the 2nd ICSI. I have no problem producing good eggs. I think it is like allip60 said. Every woman is different and age matters but it is not the only factor that matters. It is very strange that they didn´t tell you why the eggs couldn´t be fertilized. Ask again and be sure that you are with the right doctor.
In my case, my husband is in the normal range of sperm count and volume, but the doctor said that it was better to do ICSI to be sure that all the eggs that I produce get fertilized. The first time I produce 4 eggs, the second time 6.
It is tough to wait to have your blood test, but I am being positive and I know everything will be fine. Next Tuesday I will have the blood test to know if I am pregnant.
Good luck with your treatment!
Most women will have trouble getting pregnant after 42 but not all women; every woman is different. I was told I have low odds of getting pregnant at 39 because of my high FSH level (14) but I know two women who got pregnant on their first try (naturally) in their late 30s and early 40s. My OB/GYN told me that generally it's the same women who have no problem getting pregnant in their mid- to late-30s who also have no problem getting pregnant in their early to mid 40s. Other women have a hard time even in their 20s. My only advice is if you decide to do ivf again you make sure you go with the most aggressive protocol there is (they probably did this to begin with given your wife's age but I would definitely check with other people and doctors to be sure). I wish you the best of luck.
Did they tell you why the eggs did not fertilize?
Did they perform ICSI?
Try to ask more questions and details so you will know better what you want to do next time.
best of luck,
Miky
