Ok so I am new on here and my Dr gave me clomid today to start on my 3rd day of period which I have to take progesterone to make myself have. Just wondering if anyone knows the chances of this working the first time or what other choices I have. She is planning on giving me the HCG shot after she does ultrasound. My insurance doesn't pay for anything so I am hoping the clomid and HCG shot will work. Goodluck and God bless! Prayers for everyone trying to conceive!!
I have seen alot of people on here who got pregnate on there first round of clomid. As for myself im on my third round and have not conceived. You still have time dont stress to early you dont want to lower your chances. Good luck!
Thanks! The thing that frustrates me the most is that my periods are so off. I usually have 1 a year... if that and it will last anywhere from a day or two up to 7 months of nonstop bleeding. I was on seasonique birth control and had one every month but still wasn't ovulating. Didn't really see a point in being on birth control if I want to get pregnant so Dr and I decided to try without birth control but only way I have my period now is 10 days of progesterone. I have PCOS and I know it doesn't help that I am overweight but I am doing what I can at the moment to change that too so I am hoping as I lose some weight it will help my chances increase. I am currently in college but only community college and want to have kids before I transfer to a University in a few years. I don't want to wait until I am completely done with college b/c I feel it will be too late in my life, won't be done until I am 32 and I always wanted to start having kids in my early 20's. So reaching 26 and no progress yet is disappointing but I know it will eventually happen.
Sorry this was soooo long and thanks!
Like Jroxy said, plenty of people get lucky on first round. I wasn't one of them but I can tell you there are definitely other options should you have to go further. I had four IUIs with Clomid and finally turned to IVF. Unexplained fertility is all we know. Thankfully we were successful on our first attempt with IVF and I'm 14 weeks pregnant now. Like you, my insurance paid ZERO, so we were out of pocket up until last month when I switched to an OB for regular pregnancy treatment. Hope you get quick results!
Try to stay posisitve! Clomid works very well for many people. I know it is hard when you want to have kids young and can't. I am now 32 and have a 2yr old but it took me many years to get him. I graduated from a university only 1 yr ago and we have been trying since for another one. We did get pg again but then mc. I did 4 rounds of Clomid, none of which worked for me. So, good luck and stay positive!
Me like most ppl clomid did not work the first round but don't give up hope, there are other meds you can use. I have PCOS and because of that I am taking metformin together with Follistim . the follistim did work it did make me ovulate but did not make as much mature aggs as my doc wanted. So next cycle i will be on gonal F these are all fertility treatments you can use if your bod has no reactions
to the clomid.. talk to your doc.. and No insurance did not pay but it depends on where u r the meds are not TOO expensive but it will cost u something! good luck and heres hoping u have a BFP soon !!!
I too do not get a period on my own and have to take progesterone to get one. I also have PCOS. Sadly, clomid did not work for me and does not work for most people with PCOS. I tried clomid for 4 months. 50 mg, then 100mg and 150 mg twice. Not one of those times did I have and egg grow or ovulate, I took clomid days 5-9 of my cycle.
After that (just this past month) we tried Letrozole (provera) 5mg and low and behold it worked. I took it on days 3-7 of my cycle. (I still had to take progesterone to begin a cycle) On day 13 I went in for a ultrasound and I had an egg in my left ovary measuring 17.5mm. Started taking OPK on day 13 and had a positive reading on day 15. On day 16 I had IUI. I will take a pregnancy test in 10 more days...here is hoping!
I never had drilling and never did injections. For me it was not needed....
You have to do what you think is best for you...I hope my experience helps!
Best of luck!!!
if you have PCOS, you need to ask your doctor about putting you on metformin. It works for many women with PCOS and should also increase your chances of clomid working.
I agree, ask about metformin. I was on that 3 months prior to ever trying clomid. It did not help in my situation for the clomid to work but MD has kept me on it! It may have been the extra help I needed when the letrozole worked!
Hi im on cycle 4 and i just joined today too. I have PCOS and im still not pregnant but it may work quicker for you. My husband and I have been trying for 5 years now and im 29.
Thanks everyone! I was on Metformin before but my body doesn't tolerate it. I am on thyroid medicine because my levels were off. My dr talked about trying the Letrozole (not sure if spelling is correct lol) and the clomid together, said she has tried this with one other patient and they had 4 dominant follicles
show up. She gave me lowest dosage of clomid but said we would probably have to increase and if it doesn't work she wants to try the combination of the 2 and see if it works for me. Thanks again and Good Luck and prayers for all trying to get pregnant!!
