. My periods have always been on time, but have been heavy. This last one was the worst I ever had it though. The doctor put me on Povera 10mg to stop the bleeding. He prescribed me 20 pills. He said to take a pill every 8 hours until the bleeding stops, and then when the bleeding stops to take one a day. I have a bout 5 pills left. My breasts are very tender and I was spotting
a few days ago. Can I get pregnant while taking Provera? Also, when I am done with the Provera, how long should it take for my period to start? I also noticed that most women are only put on Provera for a shorter period of time. Why did he give me 20 pills? Was it to keep me as regular as possible? Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.
welcome, i just watched you in that movie last night..its on demand...haha. i dont know about the provera but i just wanted to say hello. I have the opposite problem w/ scanty periods. I was also given Provera when my period didnt show up. I was only supposed to take it until I got my period. Once I got it I was supposed to stop. Not sure, maybe it regulates hormones??? i hope someone else is more helpful. :)
Hello... Welcome! I'm rather new here as well. Now, I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, so I apologize if I'm just having a blonde moment. You said the doc gave you Provera to STOP the bleeding? I've been prescribed Provera multiple times.. but when I've taken it, it's been used to actually initiate my period to start... not stop it. Again.. I'm not sure, maybe it's used for both. But when I've taken it, I get 5-10 pills (usually 10mg) and I take one every night... usually 1-3 days after taking the last pill, I'll get my period. My doc prescribes it for me b/c I don't get my period on my own (PCOS related). Hope some part of this might be helpful.
Wendy80, yes he prescribed it to me to stop the bleeding.......which it did. I have read that a lot; that they prescribe it to induce bleeding. So I dont know either. I do know that when I finish the pills my period is suppose to start. Then on the following Sunday after my period starts, I am suppose to start taking BC pills to make my periods lighter. I have never had trouble with missed or irregular periods, and I know that most women with PCOS do. I just have really super heavy ones (but always regular). I guess PCOS is different for everybody? This is all so confusing at times!!!
My question about the Provera is because my husband and I arent trying to conceive right now. We wanted to wait a few more years. So I didnt know if I needed to take precaution while taking the Provera to not get pregnant. I also was told that women with PCOS may have trouble getting pregnant anyway due to them not ovulating. But also since my periods were always on time I wonder if I do ovulate and maybe do not have a severe case of PCOS. I also do not have the hair loss and a lot of the other symptoms of PCOS. Mainly heavy periods, overweight, a little hair growth on upper lip
, and thats really it! So many questions!!!! I always think of questions to ask the Doctor before I go and then when I get there I forget!!!!! AGGGGHHHHHHH
Anyways I think I am done rambling now :) Any and all advice, tips, and ideas are welcomed!!
Hello... I too am a first timer- wow the wonderful world of the internet, huh? I too have PCOS- I was diagnosed two years ago. I haven taken Provera to get a period and I was directed to take the 10 pills - 1 a day and by the 10th day I had a normal flow. Are you taking two pills?
I had only the symptoms for irregular periods( like one a year- with out meds) but nothing else.
My doctor said that I am was a greater risk due to being a type 1 diabetic
