No heartbeat at 6 weeks 4 days - please help!

Hi ladies

After 3 years of ttc and one ectopic pregnancy (that resulted in removal of my right tube), we were thrilled to get a BFP after our second IUI last month. Last week, at 5wks4days, the ultrasound showed a gestational sac, yolk sac and fetal pole in the uterus. Today at 6 wks4days, the doc couldn't find a heartbeat. He thinks I will likely have a miscarriage, though is doing another ultrasound next week, when I will be 7 weeks 1 day to confirm.

I'm totally numb with shock at the moment. Any ladies have experience with no heartbeat during 6 weeks and then getting a heartbeat at 7 weeks or later? Your input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Oh, Rumsy! I'm so sorry you're having to go through this...I think the heartbeat usually starts somewhere in the sixth week, so it could very well start beating later this week (or in the beginning of next week). So don't give up hope, and try to stay positive! You and your little bean will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I've heard of a lot of people not hearing a heartbeat until later.  I would give it another week!  Try to stay positive...my thoughts and prayers are with you!

Rumsy, I am so sorry you are going thru all of this. there are no words that anyone can say that will really make it any better.
I've had a few m/c, and I do remember that at one U/S they saw the same as you at 5 wks, then no heart beat the next week, then a week later they did see the HB. Unfortuantely, I still ended up having a M/C. so I'm not really the story ou are looking for. I wouldn't give up all hope. If they had already seen a HB, and then a week later did not see one that obviously that wold not be good. But where they haven't seen one yet at ll and you have had no bleeding or cramping, I would think there is still hope.
The Dr. is probably just trying to prepare you for the worst case scenario.
Hang in there, take it easy and try to relax as much as possible.

They had trouble finding my DS heartbeat.  I wouldn't let them do D&C as I had no spotting after 6 weeks.  They were able to get the hb at 9 weeks and at 12 weeks via vaginal u/s.

I will tell you that he has always been a little guy.  But he's 7 and healthy.

Hang in there.  Stay positive.  Our hearts and thoughts are with you.

My best friend had the same issue and the HB came back within 2 weeks...now she is due in June!

All you can do is try to stay positive. Everyone here will pray for you and your family.

Hi there!

Don't lose hope! My doc didn't see a heartbeat until about 8 weeks with my last...

At 5 weeks I only had a gestational sac and they told me it didn't look good.  I was numb.....but at 7 weeks 2 days....we had a heartbeat!  Do NOT give up hope!!  Those early ultrasounds are so dumb sometimes!!!!!!!!!  And the doctors don't even realize how insensitive it is to say, "Oh you might miscarry."

Those little embryos develop at different rates.

If it does turn out to be MC, do not give up hope and KEEP TRYING>  You CAN get pregnant.  You just have to catch that good egg!!!

I'm with Allie.  I'm 5 weeks 3 days and on Wednesday ( 5 weeks and 1 day) all they saw was a sac.  My RE said that that is normal for this stage.  I go back next week.  He said he should see more then.  I would try to stay calm....I know it's hard...but you never know.  Like I said before I posted a question in the 35+ forum about when you hear/see the baby's heartbeat and I had a lot of responses at 7 or 8 weeks....good luck!

Ladies, thank you SO much for your responses. You have no idea how much it helps. They also did a beta today and the level was 7,300 - which is decent for where I am at. At least it didn't drop or prove that it was a miscarriage, even if it didn't prove that it wasn't. I am feeling more positive now...the next few days are going to be a real challenge though. Tuesday, get here sooner!!

thanks again, I really do appreciate it.

I was really depressed on Wed. the doc told me my levels dropped and I will miscarry sometime next week.  I had such high hopes with this one.  My eggs make it to about the 4th week and than they fade off.  We meet with the doc. on Tues and see what our next step is.  Probably donor eggs.

Please let us know how you get on. I will be thinking of you...I went for a scan last friday at 6 weeks and they only saw an empty sac...I have had no bleeding but the doctor told me it could be a missed miscarriage until they got the results of my blood tests and found my hormone levels had doubled. I am due to go for a further scan on Friday 25th. I want to say thank you for everybodys reassurance on this site...it gives hope I never expected to have.
