Ovulation

My cycles are 35-42 days and usually I ovulate on day 27 of my cycle. I have completed my first month on Clomid and today being the 28day, I got my perioid. Frustrating!!! Do you know whether Clomid is known to shorten the cycles? Two weeks leading upto this I had the worst tender breasts ever, which made it very hard even to walk.

Hi,

Clomid generally makes your ovulation 7 days from your last dose... so if you took it 3-7 then ovulation would be CD14/15 depending on your luteal phase you would then expect your period 12-14 days later. Where you monitored by your RE.. did you OPK or take your temp during your cycle, this would pinpoint when your ovulation occured.  It sounds like it has regulated cycle to textbook ovulation on CD14!!...

With regards to the side effects clomid gave me really tender breasts, and bloating, and fatigue... and irritable in the 2WW!!!  Was this your first cycle with Clomid? Sadly tender breasts are a side effect of the drug :(

Yes, this was my first cycle with Clomid. It made me an emotional mess.
I am supposed to take Clomid every other month.
So next month I am not sure what to expect!! Whether my cycle will be the same or go back to my usual 42 days.
Do you know how Clomid affect the cervical Mucus? I didn't notice any difference through out the cycle. Usually use OPK, but this time I tried on day 23-25 which negative results. But now it all makes sense, I was just too late!!!!

AWW poor you, I can relate to how you felt! I too was an emotional wreck!! I am usually a very happy strong positive person and was unrecognisable with the clomid, very bad tempered emotional and stroppy!!

Clomid mimics pregnancy symptoms too which plays games with your mind. I had problems with my mucus when on clomid in fact that is the reason I have come off of it as convinced it was stopping me from falling pregnant. I tried taking EPO from the first day of my period up until ovualtion and also cut out caffiene, chocolate, alcohol and drank loads of water to increase it... I even tried taking cough medicine (as that is meant to thin it) but no luck. I have just had my first cyle without the clomid and although the mucus was a bit scatty I got an OPK+ today and the CM is 1000 x better than on the clomid!

... Don't get me wrong, Clomid can be a wonder drug for some people and they fall pregnant within the first few months of taking it - but for me it didn't work.

I have been told Clomid stays in your system for the next month so you might have another short cycle next month... it might be a good idea to start your OPK's from CD12 and taking your temp is such a good indication that you have ovulated!
