Pardon my ignorance...

I am new to all these. I just started the IVF process and was so happy to find that there is a forum like this! We all need the support we can get, right? But because I am new, I am not familiar with all the terminologies/shorthand :-(

In the risk of sounding very ignorant and stupid, I need to know what they all mean so I can better understand and hopefully contribute. Like what do the following mean: AF, BFP, BFN, DPO...etc?

Sorry... :-(

and thanks!

Yeah, I did an HCG shot 2 days prior to retrieval (retrieval was 12/21).

I'm going to try and stay away from the hpt :-)

Trying to distract myself but am not used to laying around the house! LOL. I get restless easy. Giving my fingers a good workout channel-surfing :-)

Hubby has been looking up baby names! Geeez! I told him we don't even know yet if the embryos took. He said it's part of his positive-thinking! LOL

Thanks for the prayers...and will definitely keep you posted.

Well, so people will tell you to wait, but I couldn't.  I tested on day 11 and 12 and got a positive result using Walgreens version of Clear Blue.  Just try to take it easy so that the embryo's do what their suppose to do.  Luckily, I was on vacation and didn't have to worry about exerting myself, so hopefully you can distract yourself with rental movies and lay around the house. :-)  I'll pray for you that it works out! Keep us posted.

I tested positive on HPT 6 days after embryo transfer. The line was VERY faint and only showed up at 3 minutes. I actually started testing a couple of days before that and it was so depressing to see it come out negative. I knew it was to early, I just couldn't help myself. I also learned that some people receive HCG with IVF-so if you did your HPT could be inaccurate. I used a donor egg, so I had no HCG in my system. If you can, try not to test too early.

Thanks, flygirl :-)

Had blood test yesterday and sonogram. Doc didnt call me so am assuming blood test is ok (nurse usually calls if there is something wrong or any meds need to be changed). Doc said everything looks good on the sono. Funny, I asked him if he can see the embryos and if they are still there. He smiled at me and said those dont show.

Yup, am in the 2ww period - although it doesnt seem like 2 wks since he scheduled my blood test on 1/7. Still, the wait is nerve-wracking! I did buy hpt yesterday but havent used them yet. Should I? If so, when? Afraid it might show negative...
