Period bloog and cervical mucus

My Husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost 2 years with no sign of a positive test. I just got my period after another failed IUI. The period blood is mixed with cervical mucus?  I am not pregnant after having it confirmed through a blood test.What could this be? Another issue I have is I never have cervical mucus around ovulation but have had with my mentraul blood? I have heard that it can mean I have a high estrogen level but not sure. Is this a hormonal imbalance?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi harlow!

High estrogen is what causes your CM to change and become more stretchy and abundant, so I wouldn't think your levels are too high. However, I do know one thing...it's not always that easy to detect the cervical mucus on TP only. After I started checking internally, I noticed I had a lot more days of fertile CM than I though. One month when I didn't think I was having any fertile CM at all, I even had my RE show me that there was in fact stretchy mucus up there by the cervix (he handed me a long mirror-on-a-stick type thingie :-)

Oh, and another thing, are you on any meds? I know for a fact (and from my own personal experience) that clomid can totally dry you up. I guess it happens in about 1/3 of women.

Anyways, if you're not already, I would suggest checking internally around O time, and if you still don't notice any fertile CM, you could always try pre-seed (a sperm-friendly lube that mimics fertile CM)...or maybe ask your doctor if he can prescribe an estrogen supplement (but if so, you might have to do some blood tests first...not sure).

...oh, and I'm not sure about the CM during your period, but I sometimes get some stringy, stretchy blood. I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about, but if it is, it's normal, since the lining is made up of more than just blood.
