Pregnant at interview

I was wondering what you ladies think about something. I will be a first year teacher starting this coming August. I have interviews this February and March, and I will be 2-3 months pregnant. Should I tell them at the interview?  I am nervous that if I dont there will be resentment, but if I do I wont get the job.

Any opinions?

Hi there- I'm a teacher wanting to be an administrator and have sat in on many interviews.  They'll probably interviews with 'tell me something about your self' or 'tell us about you' - leaving an opening for you to say you have kids or whatever - IF YOU SO DESIRE.  At no point are you legally obligated to say anything.  If you are going to be 2-3 months and this is your first -you probably won't be showing a whole lot (I'm 17 weeks and can still wear most of my pants).  I too am planning on interviewing and will not say anything about me being pregnant in the interviews.  You can, but do not have to.  Like the others have said they can't legally ask you.  And if you do choose to tell folks you're pregnant - legally- as an equal opportunity employer - they can't discriminate against you for being pregnant. Good luck!

I'm interviewing as well, and if I were to find out I was prego, I would NEVER tell an employer at an interview. I also wouldn't reveal right after being hired, or say that you knew at the interview.
I'm not saying lie, but if I were the person hiring and I knew someone was prego, I probably wouldn't hire them...as bad as that sounds.
Good Luck

Hello.  well congrats about starting teaching!  I love teaching.  this is my 4 th year.  About telling a future employer about being pg I would wait until they hired you =)  You never know how they might react also knowing that you would need a long term sub... let them hire you for your qualifications. Good luck!

OH - another thing.... They can not ask you any questions that have to do with your age, race, marital status, or if you have kids/are going to have kids. So, if anyone mentions anything about the above, tell them you would rather discuss your teaching credentials. Some people will pry - whether they know it is illegal or not.... Hope this helps!

I am a second year teacher. There is no way I would have said a word if I was preggo :) It is hard to find a job sometimes in the teaching field anyway. The only way I would say anything is if there was a woman interviewing me that had TONS of pics of her kids and family around - helps if she has more than 1 kid too!! Then she can SURELY understand. But like I said, I wouldn't say anything. They are hiring you on the basis of your teaching and I do not feel like it is something you have to share.

Also, I am assuming you are married, but if you are not - be careful telling people until you have signed a contract. I know my hubby and I were trying for a while before we got married and I would have probably been fired by my right wing conservative principal if I had actually gotten preggo before I was married. Here in the south, things run a bit differently! :)

Good luck and I hope all works out. That first year is fun, exciting and nerve racking. The second year is MUCH MUCH better!!!! What do you teach? I am in middle school - I teach science.
