Premature demise of the corpus luteum

Has anyone ever experienced this? I have symptoms where I will spot brownish and also bright red watery blood for up to 10days before I actually get my period. I think I have a luteal phase defect and that my progesterone levels are too low, causing my corpus luteum/uterine lining, to start to shed much earlier than it should. If anyone has ever experienced this, what were your symptoms? What kind of treatment did you get? Was the treatment effective? I am trying to get pregnant and have been trying for 11 months with no success. Clomid is not helping either, I have tried Clomid for 3 months now.

I tried B6, 50mgs, once per day back in the fall of 2007. It worked for about 2 months, and then things slowly slid back to the way they were, with each cycle getting spotting sooner and sooner. I have an appointment with my RE on May 5th and I will be asking him for progesterone supplements at that time. I don't want to keep taking the Clomid, I get bad side effects, plus I ovulate on my own anyway. Thanks for your responses, I'll let you know what he says!

It's curious that it happened while on bcps. You don't have a corpus luteum when on them. No egg is released and you don't have an Lp. Have you talked to your dr about it? It very well may be that you need progesterone supplements. I know several women here that take B6 to help with Lp defects, too. They say it really helps. Let me know what doc says. I am really interested.

I'd ask about progesterone levels and have that checked.  I was put on progesterone supplements and had levels tested same as Tina - 7 dpo.  Good luck!!

Hi Tina
Yes, I am being monitored on Clomid. I have had ultrasounds to monitor my uterine lining and it is not thinning. No cysts as of yet, thank goodness, and my progesterone levels are also being monitored with blood testing around 7 or 8 dpo. It's funny because my progesterone will be well over 20 at 7 or 8 dpo, and then I'll start spotting at 10 dpo. I think my progesterone levels drop really fast near the end of my cycle. On Clomid, I only spot for 2 days before my period, but when I was not taking Clomid, I spotted for 8 to 10 days before my period. This also happened while I was on birth control

I have not had that happen but had a couple of questions. Are they monitoring you on the Clomid? I did 5 rounds and had to stop due to cysts. It is also known for causing your lining to be to thin. Clomid is known for helping resolve Lp defects, but horrible for lining issues. When I was on Clomid they did u/s to measure lining and watch for cysts, etc. Then did progesterone testing afterward. Have they done a cd21 (or so) progesterone test?
