Progesterone Cream for Luteal Phase - Is it safe??

Hello. I have been trying to conceive baby #2 for 14 months. We had a succesful IUI with my DD 3.5 yrs ago. I recently started to understand the purpose of the luteal phase. I never knew anything about it before, but now I have come to realize that mine is approx 9 days every month. I have read that most likely to obtain pregnancy it needs to be around 10-16 days. I was curious if anyone has used over the counter progesterone cream to lengthen the luteal phase, and if so, are there any side effects? Also, is it safe to use or do you need to ask your doctor first? I'm just trying every month to discover something new to help me get pregnant. I am so tired of the dissapointment when AF rears her ugly head.

Thanks!

PS - I am overweight and have heard that being overweight can cause you to have too much estrogen, which in turn can make it hard to conceive. Though I'm not sure if this applies to me because I have a normal 27 day cycle and I ovulate every month right on schedule (about day 17). So my point is, would applying the progesterone cream have any effect on canceling out the extra estrogen? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just can't seem to except that I have  "unexplained infertility". Those words make me cringe. Thanks again.

My suggestion is dont use any over the counter medicines especially if its hormone related like progestrone supplements or creams...have you ever tested your progestrone level 7 days after ovulation?? i know as u said progestrone is related to luteal phase , but shudnt start any medicine without a doc/nurse's suggestion...

by the way i replied to your post coz two days back i too started on my progestrone supplement, but its a pill which has to inserted in the vagina, 300 mg two times a day...i started because my P level was 11.24 on day 5. doc wants it to be above 15, since i was on clomid...

Thanks for the info. You're right, I better just ask the doctor. I honestly don't remember if I had the test done or not. I've had so many! But I don't think I have, at least this time trying. Maybe I did for baby #1.

Thanks again :)
