Progesterone Levels

Please forgive me if you have already answered this question.

I am 41 and while I have no problem getting pregnant, I have
miscarried 3 times (twice at 12 weeks). Two of the times I had a heartbeat and the last time the embryo apparently stopped developing at 10.5 weeks (my cervix was tightly closed, but I was bleeding a little and a sonogram revealed the problem).

I just received my progesterone/FSH/estradiol results.

I was tested in my luteal phase:
Progesterone: 5.84
FSH: 8.7
Estradiol: 109

Considering my age, and from my limited knowledge,
it seems like my FSH and Estradiol levels are not out of whack.

However, could you please let me know what you think about
my progesterone level. It seems low to me.

Also, of course if you have any input as to my FSH and Estradiol levels, I would love to hear it.
Thanks for any input

Lucy

Hi,
My Progestrone level was 2 initially, my doctor prescribed me Clomid. I went through 2 clomid rounds :
1) First Round
50mg Clomid
Progestrone 12.2
2) Second Round
50mg Clomid
Progestrone 16.2

Please tell are these considered to be good to conceive?

Thanks
SnS

Thank you so much for your advice!  I'm now going to be taking oral progesterone supplements.  Could anyone who has taken this please give me a little preparation
as to what I'm in for emotionally, physically, etc.

Thanks so much Ladies!

Almost forgot, re: the other levels, estrogen might be a little high, but I think that depends on your age, though. If it is, then it could be suppressing the FSH a little and keeping it in the normal range. Your dr should be able to tell you about that. Maybe I'm wrong and it's ok. I hope so, because that FSH level is very good, of course! SSBD! :-)

You progesterone is definitely a bit low. At one point, mine was even lower! Progesterone supplementation is the first line of defense here. (oral or suppositories) That can be all you need to get the levels up where they need to be. When I was having some health difficulties, I had started progesterone supplementation but actually nothing worked. But when I added maca root in addition to the Prometrium, I finally had a CD21 P level of 17.5! Your RE (or OB) should not have a problem adding P supplementation. Hopefully that's all it takes. But otherwise there is always maca root and also Vitex. Good luck! Keep us posted! SSBD!

Your progesterone level is usually tested on cd21 and should be 12 or above for a nonmedicated cycle and 15 or above for a medicated cycle.  Mine was always low with all of my pregnancies except this one.  But it was a medicated cycle, femara 2.5 mg, follistim 75iui, novarel, estrace, and progesterone supplements were the things my RE used for me. Hope the info. helps good luck to you.

Your progesterone level is low. Once you get pregnant it should be atleast 12 or higher. I was concerned mine is low and mine was 16.2 at 4 weeks pregnant. Your doctor should put you on progesterone. It is one of the most important hormones to sustain a pregnancy.

To know if Progesterone was the problem, it would need to be tested during the pregnancy around the time that you are miscarrying.

your first two losses took place after the placenta has normally taken over producing the hormones and your corpus luteum cysts (which have been producing your progesterone to this point, and are producing the progesterone measured during your luteal phase) have started to dissolve.

Because of this, the tests taken during your luteal phase probably don't point to anything to do with the miscarriages.

I'd be looking at other possible additional factors myself, progesterone supports the placenta, slows your digestive system and has other "support functions" but it has nothing to do with fetal development, which you say was a factor for your 10 week angel.

I don't envy the path to finding out what is wrong and I wish you all the best. x

I am a firm believer in low progesterone..had one sucessful pregnancy where progesterone started at 4.9 and re upped me to 1000 prometrium a day and my son made it.after 2 chemical miscarriages on only 400...my new re put me on progesterone shots and suppositories..i am now 8 weeks pregnant and staying on the shots for at least another 2 weeks..my 1st re moved to ireland so it took awhile to find another dr that was such a firm believer as well! I think your progesterone is low ..good luck..
