Progesterone and spotting

Progesterone and spotting

I was told this afternoon that if i didn't take progesterone that i could spot - and i quote "forever". I was a week late, not pregnant. Then i started (very light) spotting and have been for the last 7 days. Sometimes pale pink, sometimes brown, sometimes dots of blood with cervical fluid (sorry for tmi ladies!)

So is it true that if i dont take the progesterone that my spotting will never stop?

Brief background - always regular. lost a baby in june, then two normal periods and now this. My blood test is neg for preg, and my prog level (taken when i was 9 days late) is 2.4

Thanks for any advice. My eyes hurt from researching the net!

Are you currently taking progesterone still?  Usually, the doctor will have you stop progesterone once they get a negative pregnancy test.  You will contine to spot until you stop the progesterone.  Then you will get your period.  The progesterone keeps your period from coming.  Within 24 hours it's out of your system, by then your period should start.

I was prescribed progesterone (suppositories) today. Haven't used it yet. I have been spotting very lightly for 7 days, this after being late for my period a week. The doctor claims i will bleed forever if i dont take the progesterone. I think her info is wrong, don't you think? No woman "bleeds forever". She claims the progesterone will stop the spotting, and after 7-10 days I will get my period once the progesterone is complete.

It sounds like she's trying to build up your uterine lining with the progesterone and then when you stop it, you should get a period.  Did you ovulate?  If you've always had a regular period, yeah, it's sounds weird.  I've heard of provera to start a period but like you, I don't believe you will bleed forever.  That's insanity.

yes, i know - isn't that crazy? i mean, who spots forever. its so light i can barely see it. thing is, i feel soooo good right now. i skipped pms and everything. i want to keep this going lol. i know this is hormonal because it has made me so dry :( I've never had this before.

are you trying to get pregnant or are you pregnant? we aren't trying (lost our baby in june), but we have a quirky 2 year old to keep us busy!
