Progesterone blood test

I have recently had a Progesterone blood test at the doctors which was done the day after I got a positive on a clearblue OPK, I have received the results today and the doctor has advsied me that my Progesterone level was only at 4 and that I have not Ovulated this month. I have been researching and I have found that the blood test should be completed 7days after the positive OPK result, is this correct. Have I had the blood test too early? and is this why it is level 4? Should I book another test for tomorrow which will be 7 days after the positive OPK ? Any advice on this would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

Well the only way to know if you O'd for sure is to do a CD 3 test for baseline then 7dpo to confirm. You wuld know if you are Oing if you take your BBT every moring. It goes up .5 after you O and then stays up. I have a slow rise and had a short luteal phase with the low progesterone. They like to see numbers of around 12-15 for after you O. If anyone had numbers of 2 7dpo I would say you need to be on progesterone suppositories ASAP! I am on them and notice a BIG difference in my temps. If your temp does not go up after a + OPK then your body released the LH hormone to O but the egg did not release. Then you might need clomid t make you O. What were your levels with your next test?

I went on Friday to doctors for another progesterone blood test, when I got there the nurse said "oh yes day 21 bloods...." I had to explain to her that the 21 day bloods are for 28day cycles only........... makes you think what the y actually know huh?

Anyway I have to call the doctors on Wednesday to get the results.....

I am 10dpo today and this morning my bbs stopped hurting which made me panic a bit however they have started hurting again tonight.. AF due Thur although I don't have regular cycles I am just presuming that If I ovulated then AF will be due around 14days after.

So you start your 2WW today.......... Have you any symptons at all.

This TTC Business is stressfull. Hope you also get you BFP :-)

Thank you to all for responding to my question.

I am going for another blood test this afternoon so hopefully my levels will have gone up.

Ita17 -  We def tried this month lol - I just have e feeling that maybe we have done it thiss month, but you know how it is you dont want to get your hopes up, although when the doctor was telling me that I def have not ovulated I did argue with him and he just said well we will have to agree to disagree.

I so hope that I get BFP just to show that the doctors are not always right.

How long have you ladies been trying to concieve? Anyone in the 2WW?

My RE tols me that ANY number over a 2 means YOU OVULATED!!!  Maybe you have a good DR. But if I were you, I would get another one!  What your DR told you & had you do is totally incorrect, unless I''m missing something here???
I went in a few months ago, (May 14 to be exact, my hubbys B-day!) to just get an US to see were I was at (natural cycle) & this was the morning 10;00 am of my CD12 & I had BARELY ovulated!  I had a bunch of tiny follies, & my blood test was just under a 2!  1.82  I went back 7 days later to do anothe prog. test & my prog. was 34!
SOOOOOOOOO I hope you tried this month cuz you have ovulated!  I've also read a bunch of stories about women who gor pregnant w/lower levels & had to get on supp.'s & were able to carry full term!
Hope you get your BFP & you can go show your Dr!!!! :)

What they did with me is when I had a positive OPK they brought me in to check my surge and 7 days after that they did the progesterone. We're in the same boat this month. I didn't ovulate either. Just waiting for AF to come.

Yeah...having it done the day after positive OPK does not make any sense, since that was probably the day you actually ovulated. I wouldn't rely on that number at all. Oh, and yes, you're right...it should be done around 7 days after ovulation.

Hi Mareski, The doctor told me today that because my progesterone was level 4 I did not ovulate this month, he basically said that there is no chance that I would be pregnant this month, did not even say to come back for a HCG test? that is what is confusing me?

You won't need another blood test to check progesterone. In about 1.5-2 weeks you'll go back to the doctors for a HCG test to see if your pregnant, unless your doctor says to do a HPT.
