Prolactinoma and Thyroid disease and Trying to Conceve
I am 24 years old and my husband and I are trying to conceive but after several months we are still having no luck. I have a prolactinoma and have been on the medicine for about 7 or 8 months now but I have started lactating again. I had my levels tests and they came back as less than 1.0 which doesn't make sense to me. Is there anything else that would cause me to start lactating without elevating the prolactin levels? We also found out that I have thyroid disease and have just started on medication for that. I want to know what my chances are of getting pregnant and what else I can do to help increase those odds.
Hi - I actually have both problems as well - I have a micro adenoma /prolactinoma which makes my body produce too much prolactin - so I take Bromocryptin to counteract that effect.
Then I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditus - So I take Synthroid daily. The thyroid problem affects your fertility and is important to make sure you are on the right dose of medication - but once you are - then you have the same chance of conceiveing as anyone else - If you become pregnant you will need to have your blood drawn every 4 weeks throughout the pregnancy so they can alter your levels of Synthroid or which ever thyroid meds they put you on. without proper meds you have an increased chance of miscarriage
, but with the right level of meds you will be fine!
If you are lactating it does sound like your prolactin levels must be very high?? so the test result is a bit strange!! perhaps you should get re-tested at a different lab - as far as i know it's only elevated prolactin that causes lactation - and if your levels are very high then that can prevent you from conceiving...... Good luck to you - I'm now 12 weeks pregnant and doing fine!! but it did take a while to get on the right level of meds for both problems.
