Prometrium as suppository?!

Prometrium as suppository?!

I'd love some wisdom from everyone! Anyone! I'm 6 weeks pregnant and started bleeding Tuesday. It was not typical miscarriage symptoms but that is how my miscarriage in 2006 started out (as a little bleeding). So naturally I FLIP. We've been trying for this baby for 13 months, with PCOS and went through Clomid (did not conceive on Clomid but instead conceived when we STOPPED trying and moved on with our lives... go figure!).

I want this baby more than anything right now. So I get a prescription for oral progesterone (Prometrium). Taking 400mg (2 pills a day). I spent $200 on the pills only to find that suppositories are more effective. The nurse told me today, while drawing my blood, that I can use Prometrium as a suppository. I'm hesitant and wanting to know if anyone else has and if it worked well for you.

Will be getting lab results tomorrow to see where my progesterone is at. If it is fine then I'll probably continue orally, though I hear it is not good on your liver. Why is there always an evil side to a good thing? Anyway, experiences welcome!

By the way, the bleeding did stop and hubby put me on bedrest. No picking up our other children or cleaning or ANYTHING! That helped a ton. Not to mention the progesterone pills make me feel really weird and dizzy.

I was on crinone which is made to be taken as a suppository, but I have seen many other people say they are on the pills taken vaginally.

My dr (for a completely different reason) had me take estrogen that way.  My estrogen actually tested higher when I took it vaginally than it did when I took it orally, so I would bet that would apply to progesterone also.

best of luck to you..

I also used progesterone pills both orally and vaginally. Needless to say, after going vaginally, I can't bear the thought of swallowing them.  My RE says its more effective to take it vaginally.  I hope you are okay and this dip in your HCG levels is just a vanishing twin or something...

oh yeah, and the dizziness is normal. Prog. makes you feel pregnant.
