Prometrium during pregnancy safe?

My hubby and I tried for a year to conceive and I am fianlly pregnant. I have PCOS and my doctor wants to put me on Prometrium for my first trimester. Thing is, I took it a few months back when I was late and hadn't had my period. I am scared! I am reading about it causing miscarriages and I thought that was why she was putting me on it. I am terrified to lose this baby or for it to be born with birth defects that I could have prevented! Please help!!!

I'm on prometrium now and I'm TTC.  My dr wants me to start taking it when I ovulate until I get my period or I'm 12 wks pregnant.  I have a friend who took it through her entire 2nd pregnancy (twins) and for the first trimester with her first pregnancy (single).

I have taken prometrium with both of my pg.. duagher 5 yrs. and now 9w pg.  It will help you to keep you pregnancy.. and not alow you to shed your lining with the baby.  if your dr checked your progesterone levels and they are low it is important you start taking it as soon as posible or you will loose the baby... don't be afraid it is necessary
