Question for vergovana or any other pharmacist on the forum
Hi....I read on another post that u r a phamacist. I am hoping you can help me with this...
I was prescribed Ovidrel 250 mg vial (?) by my RE. I have left over medication from my last RE...which is Ovidrel (Choriogonadotrpoin alpha
iam sorry ,irealy want to help u but i can't understand from what u wrote what's the difference between the 1st ovidrel&the 2nd ,so if u can write to me the concentration of each&active conistituent as commercial names vary from country to another, hoping to help u
I am not a pharmacist but I do a lot of work with pharamaceutical doses for a number of different meds. Are you sure it is a 250mg vial? That is quite a bit of hcg. The standard Ovidrel dose it 250ug or 500ug. This is what the syringes are-250 ug each. If in fact the vial is 250 mg and that is what you are being told to take then this is 1000 times higher than the syringe. 1000ug=1mg. Are you supposed to take only a small portion of this 250mg vial?
Thanks for your responses. I will try to be a little more clear. Firstly, I am in USA, just in so the ambiguity in commercial names can be avoided.
Ovidrel#1 (as prescribed by my RE for this cycle): The prescription reads Ovidrel 250mg Vial. It does not mention any consituents in the prescription so I cannot provide that.
Ovidrel #2 (which I have in stock from previous cycles and my other RE) : Ovidrel (Choriogonadotrpoin alpha
injection) 250µg/0.5mL pre-filled syringes. It reads that each synringe has 0.515mL containing 257.5 ug of choriogonadotropin alfa, 28.1mg mannitol, 505ug 85% O-phosphoric acid, 103ug L-methionine, 51.5 ug Poloxamer 188, Sodium Hydroxide and water for injection to deliver 250ug in 5mL
Now I checked the old prescription for this as well and surprisingly it reads Ovidrel 250mg vials as well.
So my guess is that the prescription is read as what I have for as #2 by the pharmacists.
I spoke to my nurse also about this and she said it is fine if I get the pre-filled syringe.
I guess now the questions is what is a VIAL?? Is it the same as a pre filled syringe.
Okay, I guess I didn't catch that you were reading the prescriptions. From what I know Ovidrel is administered in either 250 or 500ug/0.5mL prefilled syringes. So my best educated answer would be the 250ug/0.5mL singe dose prefilled syringe is what you should take. A vial is a small usually glass jar/bottle with a septum
(rubber plug) that allows you to withdraw a dosage by needle. It is not the same as a prefilled syringe
So the nurse said the 250ug/0.5mL syringe is the right dose?
Yes...And I actually got that trigger shot from the 250ug/0.5mL Ovidrel syringe today. Thanks for the info you provided. We'll be in touch. I sent you a friend invite. Let me know what protocols you are doing?
i think that the 250 mg vial comtains many mls for several injections&i also think that the prefilled syringes are more accurate, but both contains same active conistituant with different concentrations&to know the choriogonadotropin is a trigger which facilitates the release of the ovum from its follicle
