Reason's IVF didn't work

I have begun my journey towards IVF this month. Today was my first 300 mg Gonal F(pen) injection. I have been on twice daily luporn injections since July 24, 2008. I am taking the Gonal F injection today and tomorrow. When I go in Sunday morning I guess they tell me then how much of the Gonal F I continue to take. My question is can anyone give me some insight as to why IVF did not work for them. Before this we did the "Clomid challenge." No luck obviously. We decided to go straight for IVF. Fortunately I am covered by my medical insurance and my hubbies. Can you believe his covers everything. Even the storage of his semen and my eggs. Very fortunate there. Back to the subject though. Can anyone tell me a little about there experience with IVF, or what I need to look out for.

im 23 years old and i wanted a baby since i was 18  5 years of sex
( with the hubby ) and no baby so we went to a very good dr in ca well one of the best i must say i did everything right stoped smokeing no coffee did my shots on time did everything right i paid almost 30.000 in cash and got nowhere my ivf didnt work and now im trying fet and i still dont know if it will work or not if anyone knows anything please post because im going nuts thinking about it and i though for sure it will work for me because im young and i felt it will but i was so wrong age has nothing to do with it i really tryed pleaseee help dose fet work by the way i have pcos and a tshape uterse

You commented on poor egg quality. How do you know will the RE tell you before the transfer? I have been on so many meds I am out of my mind with confusion. How do I know if I am taking the right dosages.

I did one IVF that failed in May. The RE said it was poor quality embies and underdeveloped eggies from the start; I am only 29 yrs old. I am sensitive to Lupron, so the drug actually over suppressed my follies and hindered their growth. I am trying another cycle in a couple of weeks without Lupron, so fingers are crossed! Sometimes its just a matter of trying the drugs, adjusting their doses and hoping for good things!

Helen is very knowledgeable and has great advice. All of the things she listed are common reasons for failed IVF cycles.

Just I take bed rest for three days post ET. After that I am normally doing my works and except lifting weights (small wights) and as per advice of docs avoided intercourse. Thats all. I did'nt know about the medicines about the injections.So i can't help in this matter.

CONGRATS!!! I am very happy for you. It's good to hear of a success story. Unfortunately we don't hear that many, people fade out once they become pregnant. How many days did you stay in bed. Is it true the more bed rest the better the odds to succeed. I am confused about why the bedrest is so important. Anyway thanks for your information. I went in on Sunday, my E2 was 21 pretty low. My RE had me inject 450ml on Sunday and 225 every night until Friday when I go in for an ultrasound. Is this common dosage. Sorry so many questions.

Yes u may definitely ask ur doctor to go on low stimulation of ovaries .As per my experience on higher dose at first attempt of ivf i produced 4 eggs only.at lower stimulation on 2nd ivf attempt also the produce is 4 eggs. So by stimulating low basically we will avoid the side effects of high stimulation of ovaries. But when ur body is not in a position to produce more eggs though u r stimulated high the produce is not makes much difference.If that is the case and the eggs is not sufficient for ivf then u may opt for donor egg besides ur eggs(which u have produced) As ur the mother carrying baby in ur uterus by doing this type of option is not makes much diffenrence .SO  i opted for low stimulation + donor egg but by gods grace my production of4 eggs isenough for one attempt and it succeded. today i became to know my beta hcg + and I am preg. So wishing all the best . Don't go for high stimulation whether the ivf succeds or not we will have to face hyper stimulation syndrome or other complications throught the life. Good luck

I have been on Lupron since July 24, and started my Gonal F 300 yesterday once a day. Tomorrow I go in for an E2 check. I assume from what they tell me I will know tomorrow what my next dose of Gonal F will be. You are the second person who has mentioned not overstimulating my ovaries. Should I insist I only take a lower dosage of gonal F. I am attempting to stop the caffine. I gave up the Red Bulls I drank in the morning. Some people are coffee drinkers, I'm a red bull addict. I know they are bad. The nurse told me to STOP. It is very difficult for me to break the habit in the morning, but I did. That's another subject. Thanks for the information. Any other info would help.

Ivf actually worked for me and I hope it will work for you.
Ivf may not work if you are a poor responder (do not produce more than 2-3 eggs), poor quality embryos (typically due to old eggs), bad luck.  Even when everything goes perfectly well and embryos are of top quality they do not always implant.  We actually had very poor quality embryos but got lucky anyways.  Besically, anything and everything can happen.

hi I am niran. In the year 2001 two trigger shots of iui done but it did not worked. So I stopped.Now I am 38 I underwent IVf on April 17th of this year. For that I had taken Lupron for 27 days and Nugon (gonalF) 300 units for 15 days .on 14th April egg retreival done.4 eggs only recovered out of it 2 were matured and  ET done on April 17th and It is succeeded  on pregnancy .But bad luck after 10 weeks fetal heartbeat not found so medical termination done to me. Of course now I went for second ivf on July 25th and today bloodtest done and I am waiting for result which will be disclosed by the doc tommorrow. This time I opted minimal stimulation method to ovaries as high dosage of gonal f medicines have sideeffects too. this time without lupron gonal F 225 units for 9 days I had taken . As per my experience some factors which are taking major role in success of ivf  are
1) age of the lady opted Ivf  (2) the quality of eggs and semen (3) the uterus position whether it is cooperates for the implantation or not (4) whether any cysts or polyps at ovaries or in uterus (5) diet of course u must avoid cofee ,smoking etc and taken food nutritious fruits etc., and ofcourse I came across an article in which they say  non toxic body will much cooperate for implantation  that means u may take fruits and water , fruitjuices etc on every 2 hours for three days without any other food  .So the body becomes non toxic which will show much effect. wishing u best of luck
