Hi everyone. I am doing IVF for the first time and my husband and I are overwhelmed! Our doctor originally told us there were likely to be about 15 eggs retrieved and said 7-8 would fertilize. However, we had 32 (yes, 32!) eggs retrieved and 25 fertilized successfully!! Is this totally abnormal? Of those, 24 divided and are considered "A" quality. We are excited because this seems to virtually guarantee several children, but we are overwhelmed because our conviction is that these are all human
We had almost the same amount of eggs/embryos fertilized but ours was w/donor eggs. It was overwhelming! So far we transferred one embie which was the best of the best grade according to our drs & got pg & gave birth last April. We froze 11 of them - I think that was at day 6. The embryologist assured me that 11 was a very large number. If dh and I don't any more children, we're going to donate the rest of the embryos
to another couple who can't conceive or just want to adopt.
I hope this helps and congrats on your large number - how exciting! Back when we were going through IVF, I was ignorant about much about the whole procedure having no idea what was considered good or not so good regarding to eggs/embryos, etc. Good luck and SSBD!! - jen
. I don't think we are planning to have more children and were told we could not donate them to another couple because of my age. So I am not sure what we are going to do yet. It is a hard and personal choice. Good luck.
