Scared I missed the surge..please help

Hi everyone.. I am in cycle 3 of TTC #1, first month OPK’s used from CD 10-19 to try to pinpoint O, “fade in (test line getting slowly darker each day)” effect for 2 days leading up to +OPK on CD 17. Continued testing, read positive for 2 more days, then a “fade out” back to nothing. used 50 mg Clomid last month, CD 3-7, had same “fade in” effect for 2 days up to +OPK on CD 17, IUI w/ds done same day.
AF came 13 DPO.
Second try this month, Clomid 50 mg, CD 3-7. but I am having issues with the OPK results this time, I would really appreciate any feedback because we are using donor sperm, we only have one (extremely expensive) opportunity per month.  because of the OPK results this month I’m scared I’ve missed the window. I’m really hoping though that the Clomid is just making me surge & O late? Please help!
Brand OPK – First response
CD 12 – first day of testing, faint result line already, tested early afternoon as instructed
CD 13 – result line lighter than yesterday, but not gone, tested early afternoon again
CD 14 – no result line at all, light cramping throughout the day, early afternoon again
CD 15 – light result line, light cramping throughout the day, early afternoon again
CD 16 – tested twice, first one early afternoon, second one evening, not even a trace of a result line either time
CD 17 – tested once, early afternoon about 1:00, faint result line again…
CD 18 – first test, 10 AM, really close to positive... the result line wasn’t exactly the same darkness as the test line, but was REALLY close, got excited and decided to test again later to confirm. Second test, around 5 PM, faint result line again, at least 50% lighter than earlier in the day. Then severe bloating and pressure in abdomen last night, spread around to lower back, thinking this may have been O? Need to know if that was my surge…
CD 19 – today, used fmu, not even a trace of a result line. 100% negative. Used digital test (different brand) 3 hours later, negative as well… please any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If that one test of almost positive was the surge, (at 10 AM on CD 18) and i was able to get in for an IUI in the morning of CD 20 would it be too late? I'm so confused and stressed out!

in the photo from left to right, CD 18 10 AM, then 5 PM, then this morning, CD 19 11 AM.......

Quinns Momma-  I'm sending you all of the sticky baby dust out there, I hope the tww isn't too hard on you, and that you get your BFP this month!!

Thanks for the responses everyone, here's the update so far! poas with fmu this morning, opk back to 50% colour test line... so confused.

From the u/s this morning, this is what I got: lining was .9, large cysts on my left ovary with no follies, cysts looked to be resolving themselves already, and two 1.6 follies OR cysts in the right ovary. They sent me for blood work and am scheduled for a follow up u/s tomorrow morning.

From your experience, do you think there's even a slight chance these two 1.6 "things" could still be maturing follies and the clomid has in fact just lengthened my cycle??! (it's CD 20 today for all tracking purposes... but could possibly only be CD 19 due to last AF starting right at 3:00 pm...up for debate) I know there's also the possibility that they were left over follies, and the mature ones have already been released, but I'm holding on to hope here..! Any feedback is greatly appreciated... has anyone had this happen before?!

Thanks for the support ladies, best of luck to us all!

I think you did "O" on the 18th as well. I used all sorts of OPK's and I tell you even though the CBE digitals are more pricey, I loved them, I got PG the first month of using that brand, after 5 long years of TTC! I know there was more to it than the OPK, but it really did catch my surge, even when my fertility monitor missed it! I say stick with the smiley's!

Sorry, I can't help you about when you may have ovulated.  But I have always found it hard to interpret the OPK's.  So now, I always use the digital kits - either a smily face or not.  Maybe give those a try in the future.  Good luck!

Good luck, that would be great if you still had time to use the donor sperm.  Keeping my fingers crossed for you!  Please keep me posted.

I am 6dpo today. :)

I am not sure when I have to test using OPK I used clear blue easy digital, as the there was a time the line didnt show up and I was so unsure and uneasy, and that god I was unsure and had my gut instinct to call the docs, I had called the doc and had my LH surge tested to find out and I was in fact ovulating, test came back positive so I went in the next day.  So after that since I almost missed it I buy the digital and its not that expensive at Walmart maybe $22, its more expensive at CVS $39 but its so worth it, just as if your ovulating you get a smile face and if not just a blank face comes up and it worked really well for me.. I would try that just me reading the lines I can do but they didnt come up like they should of had and I could of missed the IUI. Good luck to you and hope your IUI goes well and you get BFP!!!

hi guys :)

the clinic finally called me back... at 4:00 when the only iui appointment times for a sunday are 2:00... so couldn't get in today to try to catch it if that was the surge yesterday. I'm going in for an u/s first thing tomoro morning to confirm we've missed our window, or to see if it was a close to positive, but not positive opk after all.

Of course I couldnt leave well enough alone though, poas again at 5:00 pm, same exact test line as the first one yesterday morning. (top one in the photo.) this one is actually a bit darker, by a tiny amount. I'm so confused... and am stupidly hoping that this one was the "real" surge. At least the u/s will tell us, so we dont just "shoot blind" per say...

thanks for the well wishes, baby dust to you all! and Quinn's Momma, wishing you the best of luck this cycle, what cd are you now?

Yeah, I agree tomorrow may be too late. I think you need to wait until next month. I'm thinking the 18 th was the day for you too! I just would want better odds that's all :) Good luck...

Also most doctors say 12-24 hours after positive OPK is when O occurs. Some instances up to 36 hours after.

With your symptoms it appears you did ovulate on the 18th. If I were you I would not attempt the donor sprem this month. I honestly think it is too late.  I am so sorry, I know it is so disappointing.

I also did Clomid this cycle and the side effects are never pleasant. Have you ever checked your temps (bbt)? That will give you a very clear indication of when you ovulate with your surge. There has also been months with me where the OPK is almost positive but not quite so I have to depend on my temps to give me an idea if I truly did O.

first off, thank you so much for taking the time to answer... I agree, and am thinking that it must have been the surge on cd 18, the only reason we didn’t trust it was because of the last two months which gave me the "lead up" and then a REALLY bright and strong positive for 3 days straight, there was no doubt at all and I guess I expected the same thing this month.
Unfortunately with us, BD'ing won’t make any difference one way or the other, this is why we need the donor sperm and only have one shot per cycle. This could be clutching to insane hope here.. But if that was my surge at 10 am yesterday, is there a chance I haven’t ovulated yet, or just have today?  (24-36 hours after the surge right?) If I can get in to the clinic for the morning appointment at 10 am tomorrow, it would be 48 hours later, but as you said it looks like I caught the end of the surge.....

This month ahs horrible for s/e with the clomid.... and I just really don’t want to accept it was for nothing yet....

Again thank you so much for taking the time to answer... it means alot!

I think you ovulated on cycle day 18. Often times with an almost positive OPK you surged and by the time you took the OPK your LH was just starting to come back down.

If you ovlated on cd 18 it is unlikely the IUI on cd 20 would be beneficial. The egg only survives 12-24 hours.  Were u able to BD at all in that time frame?
