Semen Analysis OK?? or Not??

Semen Analysis OK?? or Not??

Hi Everyone, Need some help....Not sure if these results are good, most of them are normal but with all the research on the internet I don't get it!!! Help please

Volume- 2.5 (Normal)
Liquification (Normal)
Sperm count - 109.5 Million (Normal) and I know this is good.
Sperm morphology. 45% (Normal) This seems low to me??
Sperm motility. 90% at 60 minutes
pH. 8.3 (abnormally High) But normal is no more than 8.0 - How bad is this?

What do you think about these results?

the morphology is just ok.. That tells how many Normal sperm there are,, such as there shape etc.. 60% is on the good side, did you speak to the DR about the morphology yet?

Not yet, we have an appointment on July 3rd with an RE (first appt)

I have seen men with much lower % get their sig. others pregnant. When you say it's "OK" do you mean most likely we can't get pregnant naturally?

No I am not saying that at all. its just OK, its not great, but its not bad. its just ok. I really do not know if you can get pregnant naturally. I dont know if you have other underlying problems, I think with morphology if you dont have a good strong swimmer(sperm) it would be harder for it to penetrate the egg. I am sorry I cannot be of more help to you, I know things like my kind of answer would drive me nuts.. why dont you try posting this on the MD board. maybe they can help you more then myself.. good luck to you

It is just fine! My DH's morphology was 20% and he had a count of 344 million, they told me 20% is wonderful and they want anything over 15% Calculate it out...take the % of normal times the total count and that is how many good swimmers you should have trying to attack that egg :)

Good luck!!

The SA looks absolutely normal. As for morphology, to determine the actual ranges that were used for your SA, you need to find out which "grading" method the lab used. Most reputable labs either use Krugers Strict Morphology or Who 3rd Edition. Normal forms for Krugers are >15% and WHO is >30%.  Normal forms of 45% is fine.

A pH of 8.3 is at the high end of normal. The range usually sticks between 7.0-8.3. I wouldn't be worried about the pH.

A good thing to keep in mind is that SAs are extremely subjective, especially with morphology. A normal sperm to one person, may have an abnormal head structure to another.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I think my DH SA is fine. I did read that morphology can be affected if it has been too long since the last ejectulation. It had been 6 days and the lab said 3-5 days. Don't know if that could be an issue. His numbers are from the WHO standards. At least his numbers are good enough that one day we will have a child or two :)

We have been trying for 9 cycles for baby #1 and since I am 34 (DH- 31) we are going to an RE next month if I am not pregnant. We already have the appt & referral from my OB. I have low progesterone and I am supplementing a few days past ovulation. Just started last month, we wil see what the RE says about that too.

Wish us luck & thanks again.
