i am a male and was diagnosed with sertoli cell only sperm. basically my sperm doesnt contain sperm. i understand that this can be caused by gluten intolerance
. It is usually caused by a genetic issue called Y microdeletion in which a portion of the DNA code in the Y chromosome is missing. I do belive it can be a mosaic issue in which you may have pockets of normal sperm being produced in the testes
fertilized with one sperm. This requires very little sperm. It is not a guaranteed way to conceive, but it may be an option you have. Do you have an infertility urologist you can speak to about this?
Hi Michal, I read your post.
My husband was diagnosed for SCOS (sertoli cell only syndrome) in a diagnostic TESE 2days back and he doesnt have any gluten intolerance. Cutting on gluten doesnt initiate spermatogenesis. It only boils down to having enough germ cells in your testes or not, knowing which is of course through biopsy. Though my husband does not have klinefelters, no cystic fibrosis, no form of Y chromosome microdeletions, he has an autosomal genetic abnormality, which he might have acquired through his mother.
Though SCOS is diagnosed you should be asking your urologist if it is pure or mixed SCOS. Although in mixed SCOS, the possibility of finding sperm is better than pure SCOS, both cases are difficult to handle as it needs good hands. I believe that having a positive attitude, minimising stress and having nutritious food keeps my husband healthy and increase his chances of sperm retrieval in the next TESE.
