Shooting Pain & White Discharge in One Breast!!

Okay, I know this isn't a fertility question per se but I'm hoping it's related.
I have just finished my third back-to-back unsuccessful IVF attempt and then, two days ago I had shooting pain in my left breast.  It was strong enough that it woke me up.  It was okay for most of the rest of the day but then every two or three hours it would come back for a few minutes then go away again. Yesterday it happened again but only once or twice. Then today I squeezed my nipple and saw a white discharge!  (Sorry if too much info) Only from the same breast... the left one.
What scared me is that I read that most nipple discharge is not a sign of anything dangerous unless there is blood (there isn't) or if it's from one breat only, which it is!
I would love to know if anyone has experienced a similar thing.  See, I also read that it can be due to a hormonal imbalance and I'm thinking what with the all the hormones we pump into ourselves but then... like I said, I'd really rather hear from someone who has experienced this or knows someone who has.
Clearly I have to see a doctor but at the end of the day, I don't know how much I trust most doctors where I live and I'm happy to talk to my IVF doctor but he's unreachable until tomorrow.
Thank you so much.

Oh Magda ...you poor love. This would be scary! My guess is its a blocked duct. I have never had this happen to me but i sure hope you get some answers soon. Any lumps in the area?

Do you have any flu like symptoms?  Fever, chills, feeling run down and tired?  You may have Mastitis.   It typically occurs in women who are breastfeeding but can occur other times as well.  Men can actually get it too, albeit very rarely.   It's basically like Heather said a blocked duct that begins to trap bacteria.  This then causes pain, swelling and some discharge.  It's not cancerous and can be treated with antiobiotics.
(I have a dairy farmer in my family and he deals with this all the time with the dairy cows)  NOT comparing you to a cow!!!  I've had couple of family members that've had it while breast feeding also and neither one of them were cows.  (-:

I have heard of this happening with hormonal imbalances that somehow clog the ducts in your breasts, or benign cysts (not cancerous). Have you done a self- exam and felt any lumps? Either way, they will have to perform some diagnostics b/c these blockages can be really tiny. As you said, only a doctor can tell you for certain, but there is no sense worrying until then. I wish I knew more :-) Hang in there, babe.

~>didn't you just say you got your period (AF)..??..~the white discharge is probably milk ~ and the shooting pains are your breasts filling up with milk ~ mine hurt a year and a half after I stopped breast feeding (breast fed for 9 months until my daughter got sick and got me sick) ~ every time I would hear a baby crying they would hurt like hell... (as weird as it is) ~ let me know about AF ~ that's the only thing I can think of.....

OMG, this must be so distressing.  I wish I could help but I am at a loss what the discharge can mean.
I hope your doc can explain it tomorrow.
