Side effects from using Cyclogest Pessary?

Hi, I'm 9 weeks pregnant following our 3rd IVF and am inserting progesterone supposetries (400mg) twice a day, but twice I've had spotting, once so light and pale in colour I questioned whether I imagined it, then again yesterday but this was more and pink/very pale red. I'm struggling getting them inserted now as my insides feel so swollen! Vaginally I get it halfway now before I feel it's hitting off something with no room for manoeuvring it around and in a little more, so I tried it rectally tonight and that felt worse...also very swollen & lumpy inside.

Does anyone know if this is normal and I'm just sensitive to them now, or can it mean some sort of reaction? Thanks!

Thank you, and thanks for the reply Heather - I don't really get a build up (I don't think...), the pessary is wax based so after it melts the hormone is released and then the waxy residue comes back out so it's quite messy!!  I lie down for 30-60 mins after I insert it, and then literally 5 minutes later after getting up the residue comes out onto my pad.  So I don't think there is any build up as such, but my insides are definitely more swollen and I think irritated from using them and hopefully from preg hormones/blood flow :-)  Well I hope that is all it is!

I've to go for an u/s on Wednesday to see if bean is ok so I will just need to be patient until then!  And I will talk to them then about the swelling/uncomfort.

I'm not familar with cyclogest, but I was on crinone (vaginal progesterone gel) after my IVF a few years back and that caused a lot of buildup. I was told by my RE to gently remove it with a finger every 2-3 days. If I were you, I would call and check with your RE. If cyclogen is anything like crinone, it'll probably help to remove some of the buildup. Your RE would also be able to tell you whether the sensitivity/swelling is normal. As for the spotting, it is not uncommon for the progesterone to irritate the cervix a little and cause some red/pink/brown discharge. Best of luck with everything, and congratulations on your pregnancy!
