Specifics about IUI

I am going to talk to my OBGYN about moving on to IUIs to try to get pregnant, but I was wondering if someone could give me the low-down on how it all works.

I'm already on clomid and have had a trigger shot the past 2 months.

I guess I'm just wondering about cost, the procedure itself, etc.

I called my insurance company yesterday and nothing is covered!  I started spotting this morning--which is weird because I usually just jump head-first into a heavy period, but it's pinkish/maroonish color so I'm pretty sure it'll be full blown af by this afternoon,

I went ahead and scheduled my 14 day clomid check today and tomorrow I have my annual (although apparently they cant do a pap because I have my period).

My IUI's are over $600.00  $200 for IUI,  $420 for ds, another $50 for washing sperm, another $50.00 if I ovulate on a weekend, and yet another $50.00 if I ovulate on a Sunday or a holiday.  Insurance doesn't cover any of this.  Then there are the costs of the meds.  So the cost really varys and it depends on what  all you're having done.

If clomid along w/ BMS does not work this month I will be doing clomid and IUI next month. I thought it was going to cost approx $600 ea time but just looking back at my paperwork my IUI is $235-
$355 not sure which both are there + $91 for a sperm wash,  Dr. says it removes all excess proteins from the semen and just puts the sperm itself where it needs to be.

I've had 2 IUI's with Clomid.  So far I'm not pregnant.  But, I'm 42, never ttc before and haven't yet seen a RE.  I'm impatiently waiting a referral for one now.   Having trigger shots is really important I'm glad you're getting them.  IUI's are usually just over $200.00.  If you are using your husbands sperm.  Donor sperm of course costs much more.   IUI's take just a few minutes, are painless and are very successful for getting BFPs.  Good luck!!

I'm not totally out this month--I mean, af hasnt come yet.  But I tested last night and this morning and they were both BFN.

I just looked on peeonastick.com to see the sensitivity of the test I used last night and this morning.

I used the Answer brand from Walmart--this website says that it has a sensitivity of 100, which isnt very sensitive!  There are 2 Answer tests listed on this website--Answer and Answer Quick Result (or something like that). The picture of the box for the quick result is a blue box, but the test I took was in an orange colored box.

In any case, I guess with a sensitivity of 100 it wouldnt be too off to not get a positive yet...right?

I just found out that I have to start getting IUIs dont at the beginning of the year. Not sure yet when. My dr charges 250.00 for each one and they do 2 each month. I'm going to try 3 or 4 times before we move onto IVF. I'm hoping this works. My insurance is going to pay 70%- I'm thinking! Good luck :)

Hi.  I had my first IUI in October.  I am 8 weeks pregnant now.  I was on femara, and did a trigger shot.  The IUI itself cost me around $325.  Plus I had to pay for the office visit, meds, etc...  Totally worth it!  We have been ttc for 6 years.  I hope this works for you!  SSBD!!

I've done several IUI without success but plenty of ladies on this forum have.  My insurance covered the procedure, so I can't say how much it cost.  The process itself was painless.  Check out the link for a detailed explaination of what's involved.

Good luck w/ IUI's.  I am sure the cost depends on the clinic, how many u/s, blood draws, meds, etc., as far as cost goes, too. We did 6, unsuccessfully, which could have paid for IVF and let us know more information about our infertility. i am sure there are lots of women who have been successful....but didn't work for me. i hope it works for you! Certainly easier than IVF!  Our clinic monitored my cycles w/ u/s and blood work while I was on my drugs. Then when i tested positive for ovulation, had a trigger shot, went to the office and hubby took a sample (they washed/cleaned it) and injected. Had to wait in office about 20 minutes, then just wait for preg test. That is a real simple idea of what it entails.
