Spotting after IUI

Had my 6th cycle of IUI and the 11th IUI procedure itself as I have 2 IUIs each cycle. After about 8 hrs of IUI, today, I started spotting. I have never spotted after my IUIs...is it normal or there is something wrong?? I am very worried. please let me know if anyone has experinced spotting right after IUI (and around the time of ovulation) ...and has anyone even with spotting gotten pregnant that cycle

No worries, G_S! I was told by my previous RE that spotting after an IUI is normal. It's basically just caused by the catheter irritating your cervix when going in.

:-)

doesn't spoting mean that the lining broke...isn't that bad ?? esp at this time of the cycle? and u know the spotting is not going down :(

have my second iui tomorrow...i dont know if it will make it worse.
I know i am ovulating right now but have been asked to abstain for tomorrow's IUI...am again in the same delimma...will i be late until tomorrow and then now this drama of spotting

And BTW what r u doing up so late (if u r in EST)...u shud be happily BDing... i know u r ovulating right now too :)

You're too funny! I'm trying to time it about 24 hours apart, so we'll probably BD again in about an hour. I'm a night owl anyway, so I don't mind staying up late :-)

As for the spotting, I don't think it is the lining...just the cervix. At least that's what I was told before my first IUI last year. They said it's not abnormal to have some minor cramping or spotting after. I think it's because the catheter sometimes scratches the cervix a little when going in.

I bet the spotting will be gone tomorrow, but if not, just ask your doctor about it when you go back in.

As for the timing, they say it's better to BD before ovulation anyway, so that the little swimmers are already waiting when the egg is released, so your IUI this morning should have that covered. And since the egg can live 12-24 hours, the IUI tomorrow can help too!

Best of luck, G_S! I hope we can both celebrate our BFPs in a couple of weeks!!!

Hey heather....u were right...RE said it is nothing to worry about...the catheder would have cauded it...and u r right...my spotting stopped...did not have anything this morning. Second IUi went well and smooth. I think it was the nurse yesterday,.....she really was harsh. '

Let's get pregnant together this month girl...we have been in the waiting ling for a long time now :)

I think i ovulated sometime this morning...so the IUI today would have covered it...i will check it my temps go up tomorrow...just as a cover will BD tomorrow night.

Do u know how long the washed sperms live?

I think I was told that washed sperm only lives 7-12 hours that's why timing is critical in doing IUI.

That's all??? That bad because I had my trigger and then IUI 24hr and 48 hrs later...so if i wud have ovulated at 36 hr...i wud not have had any sperms....
and those people dont even let u BD before IUI....
Gosh...how do u get it right man??

I actually asked my previous RE that exact question about a year ago, and she said that they've had sperm samples in the incubator that stayed alive for several days :-)

I'm sure it varies from person to person, though, but I think the two IUIs 24 hours apart should have you covered!

Glad the spotting went away! And yes, I'm all for both of us getting pregnant this month!!!

Come on BFPs!!!

Please do not think I am be litteling your fears. I am not trying to at all. Trust me. But I think you need to try as hard as it is to relax and not let all this worry you so. Hun, that will mess up your chances more than anything. If you have read any of my posts in the last few days, you would know I completly understand about the stress, but despite everything I'm going through I am trying to stay as calm as I can. I have never done IUI but I have always heard the sperm will last just as long as if you were you were to BD. I don't know if you are using fresh or frozen, that may make a difference, but Please hun, for your own sake, just try.

OK, I looked it up and this is what one of the doctors online said:

"Washed sperm has a survival time of 18-24 hours where ejaculated sperm (after intercourse) has a lifespan of 2-5 days."

So you should be fine :-)

As for the progesterone test, my RE did not say anything about that this month. He just said to take a HPT on June 11 and call them with the results. It wasn't until I was in the car on my way home that I realized he hadn't asked me to come in for a progesterone test. Not sure if I should call and ask for one or just assume that the number will be fine, based on last month's result (since I was on femara both times and had two follicle both times). Either way, I'll get ovulation confirmed through BBT charting, so it would only be to see what the number is.

Hoping4_2 - Thanks for your message. I beleive you are right....relaxing is essential even though that is the hardest thing to do when you know a speculum is gonna go in you and u have to BD even though u r tred...and the list is endless...and hey i hope everything is fine at your end. Have not hecked your posts...wats up girl?

Heather5 - Now those times look good...and should have me covered. U know I BDed last night too...sweet DH was so tired yet volunteered. One thing is starnge...i temped this morning and my temps were still down. Strange!! i had taken the shot 5/27 morning and had some cramping yesterday morning 5/29 which I thought was ovulation. But my temps staying down makes me wonder. Is it possible not to ovulate even after the shot. I hope that is not the case. I plan to check the temps tomorrow monring again.
For you progesterone test, you know the REs ususllay dont do that if they have seen in the last couple of cycles that ur progesterone was good with a shot...so maybe that's why they did not suggest you this time. Besides ur was 40 last time so maybe the doc is not worried about your ovuulation. But i see not harm, if it is covered by your insurance. Call and schedule ...mine is on 6/4 but planning to move it to 6/5 as my ovulation seems to have been delaying...

That is weird about your temps...although I have read that fertility meds and triggers can affect temperatures, so maybe that's what's going on. FF even has a thing written about going by what your doctor says and not your temps if you're on meds.

As for the progesterone test, I actually don't have any insurance coverage (for anything fertility related), so I think my RE is actually trying to help us out by not ordering too many tests if he doesn't feel they're necessary. But if I remember right, I think it was only about $60 for the test last month, so either way, it won't make that much of a difference. I'll probably think about it over the weekend.

:-)

yeah...it is wierd because in the previous cycles of femara and trigger I have always seen a temperature rise except this one....so dont know if i ovulated or not. and yes my re also does not trust the temping...i just do it for myself.

the insurance things really sucks...my insurance does not cover anything either...but i thinkk the doc sends the blood work as non fertility related so they get partially covered...i pay a copay i think.
