BBT is always a good backup. The only downside is that it will only tell you after you O, not before (like an OPK). But if you're trying to monitor your luteal phase, it couldn't hurt. I tried it for about a week or so and got frustrated. Between DH and the dog, I get woken up at differing times every morning.
Thank you so much for all the info! I hope that this month is your month! I always have multiple days of spotting before (and after) any actual flow and my recent doctor (since every one of them has their own reasoning) said that if I spot for more then 2 days then the 2nd day of spotting is CD1. But if I only spot for 2 days then the 1st day is CD1. I don't know. What you say makes much more sense. If I counted it that way AF would last 7-10 days! My actual flow is only for around 4 days total, but I think since I am O'ing around days 10-11 they want to push it back to more like days 14-15, but it seems like getting the CD right would make a big difference. It is SO confusing! I get very frustrated with the entire process and went for two months with out using an OPK or PAOS, now I am kicking myself, but I think I needed the mental break.
I have been doing some reading and found something that said I should be routinely doing my BBT to know for sure when I O since the OPK aren't always accurate... Has anyone else heard this? I have just been using the OPK up until now, but have a BBT therm.
Thanks again! Luck and baby dust to all!
I know what you are going through. Feb was my 2nd cycle of Clomid and now I'm in the TWW. From what I have researched when you take Clomid CD5-9 it creates bigger and better quality eggs. CD3-7 just produces more eggs. Last cycle I took it CD5-9 and didn't O till CD 17, which is 3 days late for me. As far as side effects, they are different for everybody, but mostly all of them are managible. I am very emotional too, just keep that in mind so you can keep everything in perspective and I forewarned my DH. The few things I will say is that my O pains were significantly increased, bbs hurt after O (never have before) and it can dry out your CM. Make sure to ask your dr about that, they may suggest something like Robitussen or pre-seed.
Oh, and everything that I have read (including literature from my RE) suggests that CD1 is the first day of real flow, not spotting.
Thank you! It helps just to know there are people out there that can understand. My fertility doctor is the only doctor I am seeing and she wants me to take 100mg on CD 5-9. I will go in next week for the blood work, u/s and the Clomid. I am worried about the mood swings since I am already an emotional person, especially when it comes to this topic. This was the first month in a long time where I really let my hopes get high, so the spotting has really made me sad. But I have hope. Thanks again! :)
Your doctor should tell you what days to take it. Some say CD 5 - 9 and some say CD 3 - 7. My regular OBGYN said 5 - 9 and the fertility doc says 3 - 7.
Hi and welcome! This is the rite place to find friends ,advice and lots of support! I cant help u on the clomid yet as im waiting for my treatment to start which is next week i hope. My fertility doctor did say that when i do start on the clomid it should be atleast cd2 or cd3 thats when u get ur proper flow,i dont think spooting counts. Are u on 50mg or more?
I would say people are different on here as far as cycle days.
I was told the first day of bright red flow should be considered CD1. I spotted a little on Thursday night...and maybe every other time I used the restroom until last night, and then I started.
Some say that it would be the first day of spotting - I don't believe that. If I did, I would have a period that lasted 7 - 11 days.
As far as Clomid - it messes with people differently. I have minor mood swings and usually a heavier period. Sometimes I get heat flashes. It typically make me ovulate late too - CD 18 - Cd21. That being said, it is different for everyone! It really isn't that bad though.
Good Luck!
