Taken in conjunction with the FSH level, a higher level of E2 on day 3 may be masking the true FSH level. So, if FSH is in the normal range, and E2 is high, the FSH may actually be higher than the number given. My dr said that E2 isn't indicative of anything taken on it's own (unless one is on fertility medications), but must be considered in light of FSH.
What was your wife's FSH level?
You want estrogen to be higher... that prepares the body for pregnancy. A low estorgen level on/after ovulation tells the body to start menistrating. Here are some levels I found for you. Granted as you can see, it's on a medicated cycle... but, as you can see, they are well over 80 around ovulation
Estradiol (E2) Day 3 25-75 pg/ml Levels on the lower end tend to be better for stimulating. Abnormally high levels on day 3 may indicate existence of a functional cyst or diminished ovarian reserve.
Estradiol (E2) Day 4-5 of meds 100+ pg/ml or 2x Day 3 There are no charts showing E2 levels during stimulation since there is a wide variation depending on how many follicles are being produced and their size. Most doctors will consider any increase in E2 a positive sign, but others use a formula of either 100 pg/ml after 4 days of stims, or a doubling in E2 from the level taken on cycle day 3.
Estradiol (E2) Surge/hCG day 200 + pg/ml The levels should be 200-600 per mature (18 mm) follicle. These levels are sometimes lower in overweight women
Thanks so much for responding. She is not on any meds. I'm just so confused bc the gyn said all labs look good. I am just concerned that the fertility clinci didn't say anything until now. Of course after we spent $1000 on the first iui. Do you know if preg is possible with this issue?
Is she on estogen pills? I know my levels have been well over 1,000 while taking estogen. Of couse, we are doing ivf... I did get pregnant on the first round (donor eggs) but we m/c'd. But my levels were over 1,000.
Are you using meds with your IUI or is it all natural??
